Heavy Fire! Under a Coordinated Denial of Service Attack

Posted on 08/13/2017 9:48:50 AM PDT by John Robinson

The illiberal progressives are trying to knock us offline. We're fighting the good fight and will not succumb. I'm sniping the most annoying ones by hand, then two more show up to replace him. Going to experiment with an automated system to nuke 'em. SkyNet lives. Update: SkyNet is online

Not sure how well we could utilize a CDN with the current architecture of the site, there’s just not enough static content. I do plan to fix that, but it’s a major rewrite which I have taken up on and off for a long while now.

Is there a traceroute map showing where they are coming from?
Once found then maybe send in a SWAT team so they can practice.

Nuke ‘em ‘till they glow, then shoot ‘em in the dark.

Literally nothing you can do in these situations except blacklist entire IP ranges if needed. You can’t really take legal action because most of the IP traffic doing the attack are bots that reside on hacked or malware ridden computers. This isn’t uncommon with large traffic systems especially financial institutions.

Oh, how awful! Maybe it would be safer to initially block ALL IP addresses, and then selectively enable only those belonging to trusted freepers. You can have them provide their IP address in the Paypal transaction comments, or with the check.

i'm sure the vast majority are dynamic ip's but there must be a couple that are static that could be found and the system interrogated to find the bot and any clues that can be gleaned from that

but guess that's simply wishful thinking

No, just lots of long hours at work, unfortunately. Won’t let up until bad weather season is back. Always next year, I guess.

I know there are political reasons to collapse this site because of Freeper crowdsourcing the veracity of MSM/DNC reporting, but cybercrime is important to root out.

At the very least, perhaps you should reach out to the newly formed California Cyber Crime Center that was announced by former Attorney General Kamala Harris.

They would do forensic analysis of the incoming traffic at the server farm, as well as put tracers on the future traffic.

Also, they would open a case file that would remain active in case similar IP addresses are detected attacking other computer sites. Maybe they will discover that it's part of a larger integrated cyber-attack on the United States? Maybe it's the Deep 5- itself.

I know what you're thinking, but what good is living in a country where conservatives are afraid of reaching out to their own law enforcement for fear of being abused by the police?

Homeland Security says "If you see something, say something." You're seeing something; are you going to say something to the proper authorities, and then make them live up to their charter?

Just like the person who refuses to file rape charges, nothing happens if the cyber-crime victim stays silent. Conservatives cannot be made to feel that the agencies of government are off-limits to them or are worse than the criminals they are there to investigate.

It does no good to talk oneself out of it on the grounds that one is "too small to care about." Like I said above, what if rape victims thought the same way? Wouldn't the perpetrators think that victims would take that view, and then use their natural reluctance to report against them when they prey on their victims?

Dang. I forgot. Then again, ‘they’ probably already have FReepers in their data base of deplorable miscreants.

I’ve been around long enough to know a few things. First, this is a fact of life for content providers online, I am actually dismayed we don’t suffer more attacks like this... especially now that SkyNet is active (I am proud of my baby, it was fun to write and watch and has much more potential.) Second, LEO won’t budge if monetary damages cannot be demonstrated. They’ll jump on CC fraud, other financial crimes, data theft, but won’t do anything about some random script kiddies with too much time on their hands — not because it isn’t important, but because it happens on such a massive scale every day, it just isn’t possible to act on 1% of the reports (and probably only 1% of attacks are reported.)

Your kidding?! Taking FR's case to a California site founded by Communist Kamala Harris will do nothing more than put a leftist spotlight on FR. Stay away from government-sponsored sites that more than likely will turn on you for "hate speech" and "racist" content (by their definition anything critical of BLM, for example).

Then why bother reporting ANY crime at all in California, if the cops ARE the criminals?

The Robinsons could always get a lawyer to front for them at the California Cybercrimes division to hold them accountable to their charter for ALL Californians. Perhaps a group like the ACLJ would take it up for free, since many of their activities are publicized here.

Besides, it's not just FR that's impacted; it's the throughput at the commercial server farm in San Jose that see its other customers bottlenecked by the DoS traffic; it's the other businesses on the subnets near the server farm that are being overwhelmed with the DoS traffic.
