Im a white man, so you should listen to absolutely nothing I say, at least on matters of social justice. I have no standing. No way to relate. My color and gender nullify me, and it gets worse: I grew up in the suburbs. Dad made six figures. We had a backyard pool. From the 10th through 12th grades, I attended private school. So the only proper way for me to check my privilege is to realize that it blinds me to others struggles and should gag me during discussions about the right responses to them.
But wait. Im gay. And I mean gay from a different, darker day. In that pool and at that school, I sometimes quaked inside, fearful of what my future held. Back then the 1970s gay stereotypes went unchallenged, gay jokes drew hearty laughter and exponentially more Americans were closeted than out. We conducted our lives in whispers. Then AIDS spread, and we wore scarlet letters as we marched into the public square to plead with President Ronald Reagan for help. Our rallying cry, silence = death, defined marginalization as well as any words could.
So where does that leave me? Who does that make me? Oppressor or oppressed? Villain or victim? And does my legitimacy hinge on the answer?

Have you ever heard the phrase “The glass is either half empty or half full.” Depending on which one you choose, you help other define or understand your personality.
In that same vein, this author chose to title his story “Im a White Man. Hear Me Out.” when he just as easily could have titled the story, “I am a gay man, stop listening to me.”
Implicit bias is in everyone.

I wonder what causes a person to become so self loathing. Just utterly weak and pathetic. I’d rather be dead.
Except in those days, Frank (you know, when you were in your heated pool or sitting in that rich boy’s private school while the rest of us sat 50 to a room), gay guys still had a sense of humor and were fun to be around.
The product of psychological mind manipulation from childhood to adulthood, look to our learning institutions
Don’t care what your sexual preference is and I especially don’t care to listen to what you have to say. Now buzz off.
In this pathetic, weak dude's first statement he reinforces the theorem that in our society that white men do not deserve any political representation in our society.
Not sure whats up with all the victimhood and SJW stuff lately. I am about this guys age and have served and worked with people from all walks of life. When everyone minds their own business, everybody gets along fine. The only people I disliked were know it all bosses and slacker co-workers. Now I have to add pushy people that tell me how I have to think.
The glass is either half empty or half full.
Neither. The glass needs washing.
The obsession with race/oppressor/oppressed/gay/normal/dickchopper is insanity. I will not enter into a discussion with an insane person.
Frank is a gay radical Manhattan leftist .
A freak that could not survive outside his little bubble.
What is hilarious is that the white liberals created this victim mentality monster and now the monster has taken over their party and their institutions and kicked them out.
Libsplaining rhymes with Complaining
An American without a New York Times Sunday Paper is like a fish without a bicycle.
You are not gay sir. You are ordinary commonplace queer.
I agree, that is the theorem. It just seems to me, that this theorem has been going on for MANY decades, and only gets worse. I don't look for things to improve in my lifetime. I wish I could be more positive than that, but I can't at this time. 😩
“Those construct my character, and shape my voice, to be embraced or dismissed on its own merits. My gayness no more redeems me than my whiteness disqualifies me. And neither, I hope, defines me.”
It’s actually a pretty good essay. The author is obviously extremely PC and accepts all the leftist nonsense, and yet is daring to question the dictatorship of identity politics. It’s a step in the right direction.
“I will not enter into a discussion with an insane person.”......
While I agree with your comment, how do you tell if they are insane unless you hear them speak?
He forgot to mention he cannot think and has no balls...
