U.S. military strategists at the Pentagon have a military solution in place to address the growing threat emanating from North Korea, but they are holding their fire in favor of ongoing diplomatic efforts by Washington and its allies, Defense Secretary James Mattis said Thursday.
The Pentagon chief remained largely mum on the details of that military solution, which theoretically would curb Pyongyangs efforts to develop a nuclear-capable, ballistic missile arsenal, except to say any military option would be a multilateral one involving a number of regional powers in the Pacific.
Do I have military options? Of course, I do. Thats my responsibility, to have those. And we work very closely with allies to ensure that this is not unilateral either
and of course theres a military solution, Mr. Mattis told reporters en route to meet with senior leaders in the technology sector in Seattle and California.

Kim is going to test whether that is the case. When he launches his missiles at Guam, we should shoot them down.
Is that all?
For now. That’s really a big step. It might fail.
But what this guy is doing now (while he works on the H-bomb) is he’s trying to improve his guidance. He’ll use Guam as a target. Best for us to disrupt that.
So which do they want first, fire or fury?
Well, we could sink all his subs too.
And And And - level North Korea in one hour.
They aren’t going to do that unless they are armed. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even wait until they launched the missiles.
I am sure Russia and China will have some thing to input
Neither want to look like inconsequential observers
And there is the real problem for Trump
Things haven’t really started yet
What a damn mess
Two Trident SSGNs, one Trident SSBN and a dozen B-1Bs have low visibility and small footprint.
Of course we have two Carrier Battle Groups and a couple of squadrons of F-35s in theater.
Not to mention all the F-15/16’s that have been deployed in theater for decades.
Fat ‘Un and the Norklandians would do well to understand their situation. This POTUS has the will to pull the trigger without regard to the interests of Japan and SKorea.
He’s asking himself right now: Can these guys REALLY get a nuke to the US mainland?
“When he launches his missiles at Guam, we should shoot them down.o “
Nonsense.
We should take them out on the ground, before launch.
There’s no reason to risk the credibility of out ABM assets.
We can go right back at his mainland. Just because it misses, it’s still a hit.
Can’t we send a covert over to kill the Korean pig?
“Well, we could sink all his subs too.”
I like that.
In addition to preempting the launch of the missiles, we should sink his entire navy. Everything that floats.
Dare the little sh!t to retaliate.
It sure is a damn mess.
It seems to me Russia and China should be getting tired of the Nork psychos, Kim is not their friend either.
It would be the ideal but IMHO, you need to take out some Generals. You have to have his army turn on him and take him out themselves.
Yes, but like I said in another post, they (Trump) are not going to use nukes on NK unless he actually has a nuke in the missiles that he aims at Guam. If it’s just a test, as they claim, then the best we can hope for is that Trump will order the military to shoot it down... which he should. Right now, Kim is trying to sharpen his aim. Anything we can do to disrupt that is good. In addition, we need to sharpen our aim.
I am sure there’s military plans/solutions for ALL our enemies.
I agree with your post. While I have reason to believe the THAAD is highly reliable, and I like the idea of testing it with enemy missiles (saves us the cost of launching a target and answers a host of effectiveness issues in terms of a test being an accurate portrayal of the enemy.)
The fact is that putting a missile that may be armed on the launch pad is enough to trigger a response. We would not know the condition of the weapon (nuclear or non-nuclear - or inert) and we really would not know the targed (Guam, Japan, or Hawaii)
No, getting ready to launch is the trigger and I am sorry to say that I believe the foolish DPRK leader will do this soon.
