US Marines Test All-Male Squads Against Mixed-Gender Ones – And The Results Are Bleak
The Federalist Papers ^ | 8/7/2017

Posted on 08/08/2017 5:17:25 AM PDT by Altura Ct.

In 2013, the US military lifted its ban on women serving in combat. Shortly after, the Marine Corps began what it calls an “unprecedented research effort” to understand the impact of gender integration on its combat forces.

That took the form of a year-long experiment called the Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force, in which 400 Marines — 100 of them female — trained for combat together and then undertook a simulated deployment, with every aspect of their experience measured and scrutinized.

All branches of the military faced a January 1, 2016 deadline to open all combat roles to women, and the Marine Corps used this experiment to decide whether to request exceptions to that mandate. The Corps’ summary of the experiment concludes that combat teams were less effective when they included women.

Overall, the report says, all-male teams and crews outperformed mixed-gender ones on 69% of tasks evaluated (93 out of 134). All-male teams were universally faster “in each tactical movement.” On “lethality,” the report says:

All-male 0311 (rifleman) infantry squads had better accuracy compared to gender-integrated squads. There was a notable difference between genders for every individual weapons system (i.e. M4, M27, and M203) within the 0311 squads, except for the probability of hit & near miss with the M4.

All-male infantry crew-served weapons teams engaged targets quicker and registered more hits on target as compared to gender-integrated infantry crew-served weapons teams, with the exception of M2 accuracy.

All-male squads, teams and crews and gender-integrated squads, teams, and crews had a noticeable difference in their performance of the basic combat tasks of negotiating obstacles and evacuating casualties. For example, when negotiating the wall obstacle, male Marines threw their packs to the top of the wall, whereas female Marines required regular assistance in getting their packs to the top. During casualty evacuation assessments, there were notable differences in execution times between all-male and gender-integrated groups, except in the case where teams conducted a casualty evacuation as a one-Marine fireman’s carry of another (in which case it was most often a male Marine who “evacuated” the casualty)

The report also says that female Marines had higher rates of injury throughout the experiment.

While the conclusions make it look like having women in combat isn’t a good idea, one important caveat of the tests is that many of of the male study participants had previously served in combat units, whereas female participants, by necessity, came directly from infantry schools or from noncombat jobs.

Hopefully, with more training in combat, women will be a strength for the military, but the most important thing to remember is that risking the lives of a military unit in combat to provide career opportunities or accommodate the personal desires of an individual is not only bad, but very dangerous military judgment.

Kathleen Parker pointed out that a woman’s “oleaginous” body opening hinders their ability to be a soldier.

Seems to me the conclusion is the one we all know it would be about the more important tasks listed pertaining to combat.

What are the tasks that mixed-gender team performed better? Shouldn’t there be some enlightenment about that 31%?

And they will suffer. O and thanks to the republican caucus, their higher cancer rates and higher mental health problems will cost us taxpayers.

I saw a video of a fire mission (Don’t know if it was Afghanistan or Iraq) where the individual Marines were physically taking 155 mm rounds off the bed of a truck that was close to lower/mid chest height. (I assume they were 155mm rounds by the awkward way they were carrying them...I think if they were 105 mm, they could carry those far less awkwardly.)

They were holding the rounds in a bear hug, then walking-frog walking them about 20 yards over to another area and putting them on the ground, then coming right back for another one.

It looked like exhausting, back breaking work if you had to do that for any length of time. You would be hard pressed I think to find many women who could carry more than one or two.

In a combat situation where every physical body can make a difference, to have only guys being able to do that is a severe disadvantage to unit capability.

But don't expect these results to have any impact on the driving PC philosophy.

What we need are more training and more money and a modified test to hide outcomes.

So what tests did the mixed gender teams do better on? Was it a “tie”, or were there any tests that mixed unit teams did way better?

I bet the squad with all the wimens was much better fed due to the females greater skills at sammich making.

Not gonna work. Imagine a split tail trying to hump ammo for any artillery unit. Lotta people gonna die because they can’t deliver.

Who didn’t see this coming? The liberal revisionists who are trying desperately to vastly reduce the effective strength of the US military forces, by diluting the power that can be brought to bear against enemy confrontation, and by setting “rules of engagement” that essentially paralyze the US military unit, had this outcome in mind all the time.

Women cannot fight wars on the same basis as men, regardless of how much training is mandated. This is not to say that an all-female fighting unit could not be an effective field operation, but the segregated genders have totally different personal interactions. And in these different personal interactions, a very different dynamic takes place, and vastly different tactics of engagement with the enemy are used. Take note of the Kurdish female peshmerga and how they engage the various ISIS units. They know full well that to fail is to die after being subjected to unspeakable atrocities if captured, so they are vicious to an enormous degree when they come upon or are pursued by one of these ISIS units.

These same female peshmerga use similar tactics against Turkish troops, too.

Females can and do serve in front-line military engagements. But never as well in mixed-gender units.

Don’t mess with Tess.

Actually, I think it would have been interesting to have had a third, all-female group. While I doubt it would have performed better that the all-male group, would it have been better than the mixed? It is a lost opportunity to bolster answers and perhaps raise new ones.

I’ve read comments 1-9 and note one ingredient in this cake is missing from them. Namely, combat is terrifying, combat to some is so frightening that it is debilitating, meaning your legs just won’t work when your brain says “go”..............and I’m speaking about some big, bad tough guys..............not a 95 lb woman with her hair rolled in a bun on top of her little head.

In this so called “test”, nobody’s head got blown off, no legs were blown off, no gut shots, no one just disappeared when a 105 artillery shell went off a few feet away. In other words, real combat cannot be “acted out” in a SAFE zone ergo this whole “test” was and is a fraud.

Want a test, put a few volunteer women in a REAL COMBAT situation! But, everybody knows what would happen because we saw it in Panama. Women just froze and refused orders. The “testors” and the Marxist’s behind them don’t want a REAL TEST.

"Just out of curiosity, how much does the baseplate for an 81mm mortar weigh?"

I went out and looked it up and per this website:

http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/infantry/mortar/M252.html

The current one weighs 29 lbs. Combine that with your regular combat load of anywhere from 50 - 60 lbs and each mortar round weighs 15 lbs per the website also and you can see that it can get pretty heavy.

Per the granddaddy of Trusts, 29 pounds.

So if you are a man in a mixed-gender unit, the fastest way to increase your chances of survival would be to immediately shoot all the women in your unit?

It’s only bleak if we keep the policy. Otherwise, it’s highly predictable.

Of course, I loved how they pointed out that the all male squad had combat veterans in it, so that could have gave them an advantage.

I’m pretty sure that the co-ed team had combat veterans in it as well, so that makes it not only fair, but also REAL! In real life Fleet Battalions, you have inexperienced males just graduating from MOS school being added to veteran combat units and they make it work!

So, they added inexperienced females who had just finished their basic grunt MOS school into a veteran combat unit, and that unit failed to keep up with the all male units - PERIOD!!

The co-ed team was faster in repairing combat clothing, damaged during fire exercises, in the field!
