I’m thinking maybe Livermore or Hartford. Somewhere off the beaten path.
Lenoir City or Loudon.
Stay in that county.
My son and I are driving 700 miles to Black Mountain near Asheville, NC. We booked a lovely little cottage in the woods but are heading to Gorges State Park for the Eclipse itself. 100% totality.
You’re due in 2099. Be patient!
Yeah. I hope the eclipse rays zap out his engines ... just kidding!
The 100% will be over Anderson. You will have it short.
Gorges State Park is the only North Carolina State Park to be in the path of totality. The drive from Black Mountain to Sapphire is about 60 miles and we’ll head out no later than 6 am to stake out our spot in the park.
Weather permitting! Don't forget! I don't want to Jinx everybody, but hey.
That should be a fun trip. Stop by Lake Lure, it’s nice.
OK, I played it.
Now I am crying.
used to live in Greenville, we would get a good look if still there. Now in NE FL so who knows. I was fortunate to see the one in 1970 (was in MD outside DC). we took photos and it was a cool thing (I was 12).
Greenville has grown up quite a bit. The roads still suck.
I am there a few times a year.
I enjoy traveling from Charlotte to Johnson City.
Little Switzerland is the best. The off-road places is my forte’.
I hit every county in Arizona back in the day. I miss that place.
Rain or shine, the eclipse will still turn day to night. Still, here’s hoping Mother Nature will take pity on us and give us a clear, sunny day.
If you can hike down to it before the eclipse begins, I’d imagine Rainbow Falls in the Nantahala National Forest, adjacent to Gorges State Park, would be a sight to see in a total eclipse. Back in the day when I was in school up there, we hiked down there under a full moon to see a full circle “moonbow,” and it was stunning. You could potentially see a full circle rainbow in the mist from the falls, then the moonbow, then the rainbow again, with all manner of color shifts as the eclipse progresses. Not a terrible hike, well maintained trail with railed overlooks, so I wouldn’t think it would be dangerous, not in the daylight at least.
We plan to visit Chimney Rock Park because we just caught Last of the Mohicans on HDNet Movies and I thought “what gorgeous scenery,” only to find out it was filmed exactly where I was heading in a couple weeks! Lake Lure is just a few minutes away.
I’m glad you piped in. I know you have this territory under your belt. I am gonna be stuck in Smithfield.
Oh well. They also have Cowpens battlefield to consider.
Anderson Indiana? I’m right next door.
Can I look at it safely with welding goggles?
(Yes, I prolly think this thread is about me, ‘bout me.)
Remember ‘Dolores Claiborne’? She kilt her hubby during an eclipse.
