Or 91%. Depends on whether you see the sun 9% visible or 91% obtructed. I’m in the Indy area and I think I’ll head for some random spot in Kentucky.

Anderson is already booked. If you know people around there, stay with them. Greenville is booked. I-85 is booked.

Just drive in and drive out.

Did you get gigged for missing your gig?

The randomer the better, but with Google Maps at hand, there's no excuse for a failure to plan. Try to find some likely spots ahead of time.

I feel a song coming on.

Click on your location to find your blackout coverage. Map is about 1/3 down on the page.

We get 83% of an eclipse without leaving Morgantown. That’s good enough for government work.

Na...I just played later. In Boston “Traffic” is always an acceptable alibi.

I found a hotel in Shelbyville, TN south of Nashville. It is outside of the totality path, but only a short drive away from it. I checked again today to see if I could find anywhere closer. One room in Murfreesboro is available for about $150 more than its regular price. Other than that it looks like Nashville is booked up solid.

I am in the Salem Oregon area. Hotels started kicking out people with reservations so they could raise the rates. population here is 175,000 and they expect 125,000 more. Told to stock up on food and gasoline. Take a jar to pee in if you are going anywhere. Park to be filled with tents and RVs. I’m going to watch from the backyard with my approved eclipse glasses.

I know this path all to well in the Southeast.

Athens, Sweetwater, anything Smokies, Murphy, and all points to Charleston are done.

I will be on the road but not on the road. I will stop at a Cracker Barrel and have my lunch. I will don my solar glasses turn on Rush and watch.

It should be fun. Be safe everybody and please understand the world will slow down during this event. Do not let it catch you off guard.

Cool. I’ll remember that if I ever go to Boston. Thanks for the additional detail about your story.

Yea, Nashville will make a mint off of this.

It a two minute phenom for mega-bucks.

I understand Oregon is cashing in big-time. It’s as big as Y2K. It’s all good. Leave a tip for the help.

I booked a hotel in Murfreesboro (TN) a year ago in anticipation of this; got a good rate. Now, there doesn’t seem to be much availability.
My plan is to head from there towards Sparta which is near the mid-line. Hoping the roads aren’t too crazy, but I’ll already be in the path, just trying to maximize it.
As an aside, I’m also looking for a retirement area on this trip in TN, KY, WV - probably around the Smokies. Any mid-size communities (30-150k) a Freeper would reccommend?

Yeah — well, I was just about to post how I once flew my Lear Jet to Nova Scotia to see a total eclipse of the sun, but you kind of beat me to it!

Without going to Nova Scotia it is impossible.
