The $12.9 billion USS Gerald R. Ford, which can carry about 5,000, is the first new US aircraft carrier designed in 40 years. Of course, a lot has changed in 40 years.
For one thing, its not uncommon to find women serving aboard such carriers these days. Women account for nearly 20% of the sailors in the US Navy. So, the ships designers adapted to the new reality. According to the Navy Times, the Ford has no urinalsonly seated toilets with stalls.

Be like Dad and Not Like Sis,
Stand up when you PISS.
Fenway Park too.
But the ladies complain about the troughs with running water in the unisex toilets because they get their drawers all wet when they sit in them.

Neither does my house.
However, brace yourselves for a ship-wide round of lid-lowering sensitivity classes.

Futility.
Two facts. Women complain about everything. They blame everyone else. These two things alone make this impossible to work.
Not one admiral will deservedly lose his stars because of this FUBAR.
The Navy has turned metrosexual.
Two points:
1. The technology is there... (and was in the news recently when some SJW moron leaked on a flag)
2. As one gets older, one may find that a much higher percentage of one's bladder can be emptied standing up. Good to bear in mind in this age of rising PSA's :-)
I stopped using urinals. There is too much splash back.
Obama’s redesign ?
A good place to start draining the USNavy swamp.
‘Can’ all the admirals who signed off on this design modification.
You evidently have never been on a Ship.
I thought women wanted equality with men?I witnessed first hand women who were successfully able to navigate a urinal. Sure, booze was involved, but that is only a formality.
OK. As a female, I say this is a waste of space. They do not need that many closed stalls on the ship. The story sounds bogus to me. All ships need to have some stalls, because not all toilet stops are for pee, but to waste so much space and material for only stalls is ridiculous.
If you know what a Trough urinal is, then you are really an “OLDE TIMER”. When I visited, by need, my first one, I just couldn’t believe it.
That is when I realized shipboard life was going to be a true new experience for this teen-ager. At least I didn’t have to climb a mast to furl the main t’gallents.
>>I assume a State if the Art 1100 Foot long Aircraft Carrier is a bit more stable than a 1960s era Submarine.
It was nuclear powered, so it spent most of its life underwater where it is very stable. But they did it for the same reasons as the designers of the Ford—because you don’t “need” urinals. Does your house have one?
Women are a part of the military. I’m not a big fan, but its there and I can’t stop it. With that said, berthing spaces need to be gender-neutral so as the M/F mix changes, the berthing areas can be repurposed.
Now, that has nothing to do with the gays or the trannies. It is a reality of the male/female military and while everyone can sit down to pee, only half of the population can stand up. But, everyone sits to poop. Having lived on a warship, any place that offers some privacy is a welcome thing.
