WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump has signed into law new sanctions against Russia that were passed overwhelmingly by Congress last week and that run counter to his desire to improve relations with Moscow.

A White House official said on Wednesday he had signed the bill, and White House adviser Kellyanne Conway confirmed this during an interview with Fox News.

This is Trump’s first real mistake. Should have vetoed it, and called for a summit with Putin.

BS...that's not how the system works....And Putin understands that, too.

Get real...

They are all trying to make tensions between trump and Putin. In 5-10 years russia may be America's greatest ally against Islamic terrorism.

"The fact (that) he does this kind of quietly I think reinforces the narrative that the Trump administration is not really serious about pushing back on Russia. And I think that is a mistake, too, because Putin will see this as a sign of weakness," Graham said in a CNN interview.

Can't Graham read, and is he deaf? The statement by PDJT is pretty clear. He is signing this bill in the name of national unity but considers it both unconstitutional and unwise. Nothing to celebrate there M'am.

They do far more of it.

This one is about Nordstream 2 and nothing more.

Wow... that has to be the fewest mistakes since our Lord Jesus walked the Earth.

Trump is needlessly making an enemy of Russia to placate the GOPe. We can forget about Russia helping us with North Korea.

“unconstitutional and unwise”

Arguably, it is a direct usurpation of the President’s plenary authority over foreign diplomacy and military matters. I’m no lawyer. Who has standing to bring an action testing the Constitutionality of this law? Could we have ever gotten in a position to test it if Trump had either vetoed it or refused to sign it? I would think that the Solicitor General might have standing to bring an action on behalf of the President. Who would be the defendant? The Congress itself? Did we ever settle any of the legal questions when the Boland Amendment was a big deal in the 1980’s?

Let us NOT forget that the real support for this comes from Senate Republicans who are anxious to flex their muscle and show President Trump that THEY are in charge. In concert with the Dimocraps, Senate Republicans have shown, and threatened, that they have enough votes to override a veto by the President. Again, Republicans have put “swamp politics” ahead of the American people.

I agree, President should have vetoed the bill. I sent him a message urging a veto on the Whitehouse.gov Contact page

I don’t know, but I hope President Trump soon will be able to replace one of the liberal judges on the SCOTUS (not unlikely) and then bring an action regarding this law.

In the meantime PDJT has received a wonderful alibi regarding any future serious disagreement with the countries in the EU. The action of the US Congress has significantly damaged the relationship between the US and the EU, especially Germany.
