Gary Brose, the 65-year-old Republican candidate for Seattle mayor laughs at the recent Fox News host assertion that Seattle is a socialist hellhole. Theyre trying for ratings there, I think.
But the small businessman who runs four courier services knows what hes up against. Seattle hasnt had a Republican mayor in 47 years. Theres a Socialist Alternative Party member on the City Council, but no Republicans.
I've always wanted to do something virtually impossible, he says. This is pretty close.
Seattle elections are officially non-partisan, but Gary Brose openly identifies himself a moderate Republican. He says it wasn't until three to four years ago that he could admit that to himself. And when he says that at a Seattle candidate forum, what happens?
Whatever smiles there were dissipate and melt away," he says. They set their heart in steel.

Two Republicans are running against a Commie in the socialist he##hole known as NYC.
Ha! This story gets to why, after living in the Seattle area for 46 years, I moved to a nice 32 acre “hobby farm” in central Kentucky.
The politics were so far from my beliefs that I had to leave. I just got back from two weeks there (daughter’s wedding and visit family and friends) and it has gone downhill considerably since I left six years ago.
Mayors are pretty much apolitical until the left asks them their position on abortion.
Do you happen to know the numbers for Detroit and Chicago? Just curious.
The last Republican mayor of Minneapolis served up ‘til 1961.
In the late 60’s and mid 70’s, we had a law and order independent (Charlie Stenvig) who served no non-consecutive terms as mayor.
Since then, the mayors have tiled further and further to the left with each passing election. In some wards, the Green Party (and not the GOP) serves the main opposition - although ideologically, there’s really not much difference between the Dems and Greens.
Detroit - 55 yrs.
Chicago - 86 yrs.
Well I dont think Seattle is a socialist hellhole.
But the city is working diligently to achieve that goal as soon as possible.
Bad typo on my part...
Meant to say that Charlie Stenvig served TWO non-consecutive terms as mayor.
In an ironic turn of events, Cermak the Democrat was more honest than Thompson, the Republican. Thompson was also big on ethnic slurs about Cermak, who was born in what is now the Czech Republic.
A Republican, Sam Katz, ran for mayor of Philadelphia in 1999.
He had no money, no support from the media, the entire city democrat machine
against him, etc. and ran against a black democrat.
He lost by 1.7%
It can be done.
Losing by less than 2% in a city with 80% Dem registration and 104% Dem turnout is damned impressive!
GOP in Pittsburgh does not even bother to field candidates at this point.
The current mayor is a gay pedophile.
I was going to say something snappy, but the joke’s really on us.
I ran for State Senate there quite some time ago.
Lost 80 / 20.
Good times.
I know I’m a teen but what is a Socialist Alternative Party, is that a party that thinks Bernie Sanders is to conservative?
if he can connect with working people, maybe he has a chance:
31 Jul: Breitbart: Democrats Own Poll Shows White Working Class Voters Prefer Republican Policies by Wide Margin
by Michael Patrick Leahy
The House Majority PAC, a Super PAC associated with House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), whose goal is to regain a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections, just released a new poll of white working class voters that is sounding alarm bells for the Democratic House leadership.
Among the key findings is this stunner: By a margin of 35 percent, more white working class voters believe that the term will help improve the economy and create jobs applies to Republicans in Congress than it does to Democrats in Congress.
Other key findings of the poll are just as discouraging for Democrats:
Democrats trail on the initial Congressional ballot among white working class voters by 10 points, 43 percent to 33 percent.
A majority of white working class voters approve of the job President Trump is doing by a 52 percent to 44 percent margin.
66 percent of white working class GOP voters approve of the job House Republicans are doing, up from 44 percent last year...

So, no real difference, then. He'll lose because he won't have an identifiable platform that will set him apart from the socialists he is running against.
Yep.
And Ed Murray is still stinking up the office.
Imagine a republican who was accused of molesting at-risk black youth!
How many mili-seconds before he was impeached or run out of town on a rail?
Seattle loves them some gay pedophiles.
Especially racist ones.
He chose black kids because who'd believe them?
Some up and coming liberal mayor vs. some child from the projects.
He knew he was bullet-proof.
