Reports: Scaramucci Was Only Hired To Get Rid Of Priebus

Multiple reports have surfaced saying former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci was only hired to get rid of former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.

Scaramucci was removed from his position Monday, after 10 days on the job. The dismissal came alongside reports that White House senior advisor Jared Kushner and President Trump’s daughter Ivanka influenced the president to bring in Scaramucci, primarily to take out Priebus.

“Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, and Jared Kushner, her husband, had pushed the president to hire Mr. Scaramucci, seeing him as a way to force out Mr. Priebus, the former national Republican committee chairman, and his allies in the West Wing,” The New York Times reported.

“Jared and Ivanka were instrumental in bringing in Scaramucci, primarily to take out Reince Priebus,” Mike Allen reported in Axios. “That was his chief (some might say only) duty.”

He elaborated in an update: “Kushner and Ivanka brought in Scaramucci as an instrument of destruction against Reince Priebus. He was used as a tool to end Priebus’ tenure in the corner office. A source familiar with Jared and Ivanka’s thinking said they’re fully supportive of the general and will follow his lead.

I doubt the story.

I had written the same thing but two things:

1. Trump has no problem doing it himself.

2. COS does not work for Com Dir, so how did Scaramucci fire Priebus? I guess you could say he forced him out, him or me scenario but I think it would have drawn out over a longer period of time if that was the case.

I like Scaramucci. He is a fighter and that is what Trump needs but he seemed like a fish out of water as Com Dir.

This sounds ridiculous. Why would Trump need to bring in someone else to get rid of his chief of staff, especially in such an incredibly embarrassing and self-destructive way? All he had to do was call Priebus himself and tell him he was fired.

They screwed up with Scaramucci. They got rid of him quickly. Move on - there's no point trying to dress up what happened.

I told my husband this a week ago. Mooch has too much discipline to be such a dumba$$. I watched earlier interviews of his.

Spicer (minor) Preibus (major). Big company SOP. They are not cut by Trump, but they are gone. Needed to happen.

Mooch reportedly shed his portfolio before the Trump hire.
Not a ten day assignment!

It was my understanding that he sold his company, Sky something to be free of conflict specifically to work in the TRUMP administration. Doesn’t add up to me.

Why would someone wanting to be loyal to Trump call the New Yorker, who HATES Trump, to badmouth the crew. Ugh.

I don’t believe this for one second. All President Trump had to do was ask for Priebus to resign and that was obviously already in the works - Priebus clearly could not handle this job as apparently people were going around him and he was not able to get it organized - skill sets to run a political organization did not translate well into running the White House. President Trump would not need to bring someone in for less than two weeks to get Priebus to resign - the man knows how to do that...Scaramucci would not be brought in to repeatedly humiliate himself and potentially destroy his marriage and reputation in the process just to be there briefly to run someone else out. He is gone due to his own erratic and unprofessional behavior - saying you are going to “kill” people even if that was just metaphor, along with the vulgarities and perverted insults toward Priebus and Bannon - isn’t the way to keep a job. Kelly made it clear he wasn’t going to put up with that juvenile behavior and showed him the door.

Right. This makes no sense at all, for multiple reasons.

Well the hatchet man only struck himself if that is true. There is no way he had anything to do with Priebus’ resignation - he just had wind of it before it actually happened. President Trump is more than capable of asking someone to resign. The only thing Scaramucci did was make a complete fool of himself in public multiple times, damage his marriage and reputation and then get fired in disgrace because of his erratic and foul behavior. He also apparently divested his business to join...you don’t do that for a short assignment.

I also believe that Mr Scaramucci did shed his holdings prior to accepting the position. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe one of the perks of accepting a government position is they allow you to sell your holdings either tax free (or at some highly discounted rate, but I believe it is tax free). That's what happened for the several Goldman executives who jumped to government during the TARP days. If that is the case, then holding the position - even for a mere ten days - may have saved Mr. Scaramucci tens of millions of Dollars (if not more).

Whatever the truth is, I believe it was a financially lucrative move for Mr. Scaramucci.

“Wait a minute. If the whole goal here was to fire Priebus, why didn’t Trump just fire Priebus?”

This 5-dimensional chess is beyond my pay grade. Apparently yours, too.

I just checked - confirmed that it was Hank Paulson who ended up saving up to US$50 million in capital gains taxes when he had to liquidate his holdings upon accepting the position in government. If Anthony Scaramucci had to do the same, which he did, he was probably also a beneficiary of the waiver on capital gains tax. Now, his net worth is high ...numbers vary, but I have seen amounts as high as US$1.5 billion in net worth. Even assuming a smaller amount than this, he is definitely worth more than Mr. Paulson's US$600 million. Consequently, the capital gains savings Mr. Scaramucci may be able to tap may be over a hundred million Dollars depending on the type, nature and size of his investment holdings. The fact he had to sell his company means he is likely to have saved a pretty penny.

With that said, there is a lot about this that makes no sense. The one thing that makes sense (or maybe I should say cents) is that on a financial level he probably came out quite well.

This sounds really stupid. If President Trump wanted to get rid of Priebus he knew how to do so.

Unsavory episode but doesn’t mean much in the big picture.

From that perspective, I guess I’m glad he’s gone.
