Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Olympics after reaching a deal with Olympic organizers, the Los Angeles Times reported on Monday, citing an unnamed source close to the negotiation.
The agreement also paves the way for the 2024 Summer Games to be awarded to Paris. An announcement from the International Olympic Committee was expected later on Monday.
Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's office said he and other proponents of the city's bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games would make an announcement to the news media at 5 p.m. PDT (0000 GMT).

Oh, joy! We’ll be able to ride the high speed choo-choo from here in the Bay Area to the games in 2 hours. Or, I could hop a high-speed airplane and be there in 50 minutes.

Building the new venues will probably cost another $4 billion we don’t have. The return on all Olympics games is negative. Why countries host these things is beyond me.

The bribe regime may be going away since there were only two cities left bidding for the 2024 games and they both got them. I think the IOC saw the writing on the wall that a lot of cities are beginning to realize the financial costs are prohibitive and this move avoids a situation where no city would want the 2028 games. If the current situation regarding costs and hassle hosting the games continues look for them to go the permanent site route.
