There are rumblings Attorney General Sessions will take a lateral move
We received word on this at Gateway Pundit earlier today.
As hot Beltway rumors go, this one is extra spicy, but doesnt appear to have very much meat on the bone. It started with an anonymously sourced story from Politico which claimed department staffers were suggesting that Jeff Sessions might be moved over from the Attorney General slot to replace departing General John Kelly at Homeland Security. Given all the scrutiny Sessions has been under, paired with conservative pushback against the idea of his being fired, its easy to see how this might look tempting to President Trump at least in theory. Fox News runs down the potential scenario which could play out.
Could Attorney General Jeff Sessions end up at the Department of Homeland Security?
Its an idea some political observers have been debating after President Trump announced Friday that John Kelly, who leads the department, would replace Reince Priebus as White House chief of staff
Dana Perino, the former White House press secretary under George W. Bush, argued such an arrangement could placate conservatives who would be outraged if Sessions was ousted from the administration.
Lindsey Graham (R-SC) expressed his disapproval over the idea that Sessions may move to the DHS in a series of tweets. In his first tweet he said, AG Jeff Sessions has a good ring to it. Highly qualified, committed to the rule of law, tough on crime, and fiercely independent.

“It puts Rosenstein, probably a never trumper, in the drivers seat”
Nope. Trump can pick the acting AG of his choosing if Sessions resigns.
The rumor is that he will pick the EPA chief.
President Trump can select any current confirmed DOJ appointee official as interim Attorney General. Rosenstein does not automatically become interim Attorney General should Sessions leave for DHS. Trump could just as easily select Rachel Brand, DOJ #3 interim Attorney General if he choses.
There is talk that if Trump were to move Sessions over to DHS then he could bring Scott Pruitt, his EPA administrator (Cabinet Level Appointee) over from EPA to DOJ to be the new full time Attorney General. Pruitt, like Sessions can move to another Secretary level Cabinet position WITHOUT having to go thru the Confirmation process again since they've already been vetted and confirmed.
Before Trump tapped Pruitt as EPA Administrator, Pruitt was Oklahoma State Attorney General. Good thing for Trump is that Pruitt will not have to recuse himself and can take the reins of Mueller's special counsel investigation away from NeverTrumper Rosenstein. Pruitt on his own authority could fire Mueller and blow up his investigation or at worst neuter and restrict the investigation to the point where Mueller may just quit.
This scenario could go a long ways towards putting an end to this nightmare Mueller probe!!
New tagger
“recess appointment”
Yep. Trump can also name any cabinet level official as acting AG until the senate confirms.
That's the reason Swamp RINO's like Prissy Lindsey Graham are trying to warn Trump off of moving Sessions to DHS. They know if Trump moves Sessions to DHS and Pruitt to DOJ as new Attorney General, that Mueller's investigation is now in serious jeopardy since Pruitt can take oversight of it from NeverTrumper Rosenstein and do it himself (he wont be recusing).
The Swamp wont have any leverage to hold over Trump's head if say AG Pruitt cans Mueller and blows up the probe or even ends their fishing expeditions and keeps them restricted to the Special Counsel instructions to keep investigation limited to the 2016 election and Russian Collusion ONLY. Also might well remove/replace Mueller for cause for DOJ conflict of interest violations for NOT recusing himself while overseeing an investigation involving family or friends (Comey).
Wouldn’t be acting. If Sessions leaves for DHS, he can bring in EPA Chief Scott Pruitt as new, PERMANENT Attorney General WITHOUT having to go thru confirmation. Same with Sessions going to DHS - he won’t need to go thru confirmation a second time. He’s already been vetted and confirmed to serve in the cabinet till Noon EST, January 20, 2021. He can be moved to any other cabinet position of the President’s choosing without having to be reconfirmed.
“Maybe he could run for his old seat.”
Don’t put the little bastard back in the Senate, because he’d be another McLame because of his ouster.
No, Cruz can become the next SCOTUS. He would be a good one.
Sessions is like an athlete trying to run a race on a bad foot. By recusing himself, he shot himself in the foot. The DemonRATs are laughing in hysterics that Sessions handicapped Trump’s Justice Department and forced the creation of a special prosecutor. Sessions could have had the Clintons on the ropes and headed for trial. Then, Obama, Holder, Huma Abedin, Lynch and Lois Lerner. Round them up and lock them up.
I don’t understand how FR would have it first. Doesn’t FR posters just link to an existing story or does FR have journalists now reporting original content?
A new AG would require confirmation hearings regardless of who it is. Always has been and always will be. Sessions would need confirmation hearings if he moved to DHS.
Whoever explained gave you fake information. All you have to do is look it up...so simple.
Trump himself chose and nominated Rosenstein. He is not going to get fired.
This is about the presidential appointment power assuming Senate confirmation. I’m not sure it doesn’t say that it is job by job. I would say it isn’t clear. Is there an historic example of a confirmee switching jobs without confirmation to that job?
I think you’ve offered a viable solution if it works that way. Are there enought Trump supporters in house & senate to prevent an impeachment process & conviction?
***other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.***
Very good but why not appoint Rudy Guliani and get him to fire Mueller and his crew?
#1 Rudy Guliani would still have to go through Senate approval. The Dem Senators would be all over him trying to extract promises that he will not fire Mueller
#2 Rudy Gulinai lives too close to the DC Swamp and is too connected to it ______ If he fires Mueller he gets criticized about it for the rest of his life due to living in the NE. So it is psychically tough for him to do.
#3 If Scott Pruit becomes Trump’s AG....He serves 4-8 years then retires home to Oklahoma where just about everyone in his + wife’s social circle will approve of Pruit firing Mueller and his collective of Democrat lawyers.
So zero downside for Pruit for brooming out Mueller and his goons.
Quite a song...
Repeating -——— Scott Pruitt is ideal for AG because after a few years he returns home to Oklahoma which is conservative and level headed. So he thwarts the Deep State Russia conspiracy by brooming out Robert “The Fix Is In” Mueller....Then a few years later Pruitt retires to the peace and quiet of Oklahoma a few thousand miles from THE SWAMP.
Rudy Gulianai lives too close to THE SWAMP so will suffer too much from firing Mueller. So he will hem and haw and hesitate..... Gulianai can be gotten to and compromised. Scott Pruitt cannot.
I would put Jeff Sessions at EPA. Pruitt as AG. Bring in a new retired military man to head up DHS
Send Sessions over the the State Department’s International Law Enforcement division - it is an Ambassadoral (former Ambassador only ever assigned) positon whose head is the Chief Ambassador overseas to all governments on Law Enforcement issues - narcotics and drugs are the primary focus but immigration policy could be rolled into the job and shutdown some other BS at the United Nations in one appointment!
That would be a great move. He’s on board with Trump’s immigration policy but is afraid of draining the swamp - going after Democrat Party corruption.
