Trump responds to N Korea with missile defence test and B-1 drills
BBC News ^ | July 30, 2017

The US says it has carried out a successful test of its controversial anti-missile system and has flown B-1 bombers over the Korean peninsula.

The exercises are a direct response to recent North Korean missile tests.

A projectile fired by the US Air Force was intercepted over the Pacific by a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (Thaad) unit in Alaska.

US B-1 bombers also conducted exercises over the Korean peninsula with South Korean and Japanese planes.

On Friday, North Korea test-fired a second intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) which it said proved that the entire US was within striking range. The launch came three weeks after the state's first ICBM test.

Despite fierce objections from China, the US military has begun installing the Thaad system in South Korea with the aim of shooting down any North Korean missiles fired at the South.

Why is it that the United Kingdom newspapers have the best coverage?

Yes a test is good to make sure that our systems are working; however, I won’t be happy until I hear the response was a successful strike against NK and the fat boy is dead.

If we do strike, it is important that it not be an attempt at a surgical strike. We need to kill people, primarily the leadership and the engineers who are working on nuclear weapons. We should kill as many of their technical people as we can. Without remorse or apology. Ditto, in spades for their leadership.

Just a thought - the Norks haven't yet mastered electrical distribution. Do you really think North Koreans are building ICBMs? The Russians and Chinese who work on them probably leave the country right after each launch.

I believe my solution to this is starting to come together. My solution was simple. Declare that since the Norks are openly claiming they want to annihilate us, we need to declare that the any launch by the Norks will be considered an act of war and not only will we shoot down their missile, but will launch one of ours at them.

That will scare the pi$$ out of China and Russia, especially if we start putting ABM’s all over the place.

This is a large part of the reason that I voted for Trump. I knew that, as a businessman for whom results are everything, he would NOT engage in the stupid dances that regular pols do all the time. He is not there to BS or to waste time. He understands that credibility is a key asset that is hard to build up, and easy to fritter away. Trump will NOT be backing down to the NORKs, and if it gets to a point where we need to go after them, it will be a relentless and remorseless campaign that WILL succeed. Such is how someone like Trump (and there are precious few like him) operates - no BS, just action.

As for why we’re not going after them just yet...well, first of all, if it isn’t necessary, then it’d be a huge waste of resources (and blood) to do so, as maybe we can show him by actions that we mean business; second, part of showing that one means business, or preparing to actually go after an enemy, is getting all of your chess pieces lined up just right. We’re still doing that, as this is not a joke of a military like Hussein’s Iraq had.

Excellent. Looks like the Thaad system works. That is the real deterrent to NK.

Don’t underestimate the Norks. They have lots of talent and can accomplish what they set out to do. They may have to import a lot of components, but I pretty sure this is a Nork science project. The Iranians, and possibly the Pakistanis are their customers, btw.

When India built its first nuclear reactor, they did not have cranes with sufficient lift capacity, so they lifted the reactor vessel on a heavy wooden scaffold raised inch by inch by driving wooden wedges using sledge hammers.

You only have to ring North Korea with SM3 and THAAD. The Chinese hate it because THAAD can neutralize their “carrier killer” ballistic missiles. There is no seaborne equivalent of THAAD, so the Chicoms see its deployment in South Korea, and Japan, as a challenge to their nascent sea power.

I suspect that the Chinese have incorrectly calculated that Trump would not do something, if they (it seems to be China anyway) help NK to hop ahead technologically, and master an ICBM.

If Hillary had been elected, I suspect that would be the case. But Trump is different.

At least I think he is. He hasn’t yet started standing up for US manufacturing, but I think that is getting very likely.

Seems like they miscalculated.

Pretty badly.

At least, I think that is the case.

Maybe.

Too bad they haven't set out to feed their own population.

“...Why is it that the United Kingdom newspapers have the best coverage?...”

Because the leftist Democrat media is covering, by its omissions, for the cowardly liberal anti-military, anti-American disaster left by Obama and his ilk.

as this is not a joke of a military like Hussein’s Iraq had.

**********************************************************

........well, maybe kinda/sort of. My reading is that they are desperately short of basics such as food, clothing, bullets, gasoline etc.

AND, a 2017 War will be exponentially more lethal and quick and over than a 1950’s war as the US proved in the Iraq Wars. Large standing armies are just hamburger meat for the US.

The one thing these guys have proven, I think, is that they “will” fight whereas we know that the Iraqi’s and Iranians kind of played with each other for ten years with no outcome.

What is "controversial" about an anti-missile system?
