Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., said Friday that it's time for new leadership in the Senate after Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., failed to bring a healthcare reform bill over the finish line.
Brooks said on CNN that he hopes the Senate doesn't stop trying to pass a bill, but said if the Senate is done, the GOP should start looking for a new leader.
"If they're gonna quit, well then, by golly, maybe they ought to start at the top with Mitch McConnell leaving his position, and letting somebody new, somebody bold, somebody conservative take the reins so that they can come up with a plan that can get through the United States Senate and serve the needs of the American people," Brooks said.
GOP Rep. Mo Brooks: Mitch McConnell has "got to go" https://t.co/hNNpl1OrtU New Day (@NewDay) July 28, 2017 "Unquestionably, the leadership at the top is responsible," he added. "The buck stops there."
Brooks said the healthcare failure early Friday morning is a "killer" to the GOP agenda, since Republicans were hoping healthcare reform would free up money for other priorities like tax reform and infrastructure.
"If Mitch McConnell cannot get the job done on this, how is he going to get the job done on the rest of President Trump's agenda over the next three-and-a-half years?" he asked.
"It's not necessarily anything bad about Mitch McConnell himself personally, but he's got a job to do," Brooks said. "And if he can't do it, then as the Apprentice would say, 'you're fired,' get somebody who can."

Primary is in a few weeks.
Yertle should have been replaced by Matt Bevin already
Gotta hear it from someone in the Senate besides Cruz, Lee and Paul.
Rand Paul as Senate Majority Leader would be a game-changer.
There’s a multi candidate field in that primary that includes the religious conservative Roy Moore.
Some say Moore would be better because he actually was willing to take actions that got him removed from office.
Moore stood up to the federal courts twice and was removed by state “establishment” authorities as Chief Justice in the state of AL.
The Freedom Caucus that Mr. Brooks comes from is portrayed as conservative speechmakers who talk a talk.
Saying McConnell should go is not enough. This list is too long in the Senate and House. I’ve even heard 99 percent of them should be replaced.
As much as I don't care for Paul, it would definitely be a game changer. And, a good thing. The Turtle is, and has been, selling us out year after year! He needs to get gone!
I like Paul but he is a thinker and a big ideas guy. We need a strategist. I say Cruz.
BE GONE!!!!!!
Who care? The GOP is a party of losers. I am glad I dropped my affiliation last year after voting for Trump. Worthless turds. They all campaigned on lies.
Maybe we should find out why Mitch left the Army on 1967 after just a few months.
The real reason.
Maybe that would grease the skids for him to leave his leadership position.
A real leader would have bounced McCain and Murkowski from the Committee chair positions this morning.
Not to worry—McConnell will allow them to stay in their Committee Chairs.
Even with one eye, Harry Reid would never allow such a debacle to take place.
I really don’t believe that (for the most part) the GOP Congress is for Americans
Just wait for the traitorous ‘Songbird’ to croak — hopefully any day now — and try again.
Dallas piggy bank closed until further notice due to incompetence as per report. I think many will try to get something done now.
The trouble, Mo, is that almost the entire GOP establishment has failed. Here’s the report card

Cruz is viewed by a large majority of Republicans as being completely untrustworthy and likely insane.
If you have any questions why, please review the “naming Carly Fiorina VP” fiasco, and remember that it happened AFTER Trump was already incontrovertibly the presumptive nominee.
Have you ever wondered why he thought that could even be a plausible thing to do? He knew about the so-called “dossier,” they all did, that’s the only explanation that makes sense. That thing had been shopped around for the better part of 2016 and nobody would bite as far as publishing it, but in hindsight just look at the odd behavior on the part of both Republicans and Democrats, all the “never be President” garbage. That whole thing stinks on ice and now is the time to get to the bottom of it since we have a special prosecutor looking into foreign election interference which this certainly was.
Now that's catchy!
Old list. Kirk and Ayotte lost last year.
I would think you would want a leader that most of the other Senators would want to follow.
