The first known attempt at creating genetically modified human embryos in the United States has been carried out by a team of researchers in Portland, Oregon, Technology Review has learned.
The effort, led by Shoukhrat Mitalipov of Oregon Health and Science University, involved changing the DNA of a large number of one-cell embryos with the gene-editing technique CRISPR, according to people familiar with the scientific results.
Until now, American scientists have watched with a combination of awe, envy, and some alarm as scientists elsewhere were first to explore the controversial practice. To date, three previous reports of editing human embryos were all published by scientists in China.

I wonder if this process can be used to validate the existence of the “gay gene”. What will be the hue and cry when this process is used to edit out this so-called “gene”.
And what will really be the hue and cry when it’s reported that after 10 years use no such “gene” has ever appeared!
One of the many bad things that Hitler did was that he allowed scientific experiments on unwilling people. All kinds of nasty medical stuff “in the pursuit of science”.
Embryos are unique living human beings. But I guess we are now so enlightened that we can perform scientific experiments on unwilling people. It’s OK when we do it.

Or maybe not. The sooner we get a means of editing our cells, the better. Then we can choose skin color and find other things to fight about.
Besides, some day I may want cosmetic alterations and I’d rather have it done with a needle and med, than a needle and thread.

They are conservatives in Portland. It is just that they have been overwhelmed by all the weirdos who have overtaken them. Sorta like Austin.
That is a huge concern for deviants; they are afraid there is a “gay gene” that if detected, would lead parents to abort gay children. In my limited experience with deviants, child molestation at a young age seems more indicative of future homosexuality than anything else; I don’t believe there is a “gay gene” - and it would naturally be extinct fairly quickly.
