At least one other person was in stable condition after ride malfunction on the Fire Ball ride.
Video and a witness at the scene show that the ride spun strapped-in fair-goers around a central point and hoisted up them in the air.
Justin Eckard, a 40-year-old at the fair with his family, told the Daily News that the ride was in "full swing" when a car detached and crashed to the ground.
Eckard said that the car flew off into an area near the ride, which was shut down as those left on it began to panic.
He said that most of the riders appeared to be teenagers and that he is glad his children were too small to go on the Fire Ball.

You get on a ride in any traveling fair, you ar probably a bit more trusting than you should be
So what inspector got a new car or nice vacation smell real bad
The older I get, the more terrified I become. When I was young and stupid, I rode everything without giving it a second thought. I shudder now when I think of those old Spaceship (Gravitron) rides that would plaster you against the wall. Who knows what kind of damage that may have done?
Yes indeed. Prayers for the victims, friends, family and witnesses. Terrible wreck. Happy to tragedy in an instant, for so many.
The workers the fair are more frightening than the rides. The nuts and bolts that hold a ride together are weak and used. I rode the Zipper once at a county fair and learned to never again ride a county fair.
Space Mountain is a roller coaster at Disneyland that is smooth, fun, safe and professional.
Ha,ha, the only thing that I worried about on that ride was someone barffing. I saw that happen once. A few of the near by riders got blasted.
My kids complain when I won’t let them ride those rides, but this kind of thing is why.
Sometimes I miss Cbus. I was listening to Corby a little bit today and heard all the ads for the fair. I had fond memories of days gone by. No more!
What a tragedy! What a damned shame! Praying for all those affected by this.
On August 14, 1979, a 31-year-old woman became ill after riding Space Mountain. At the unload area, she was unable to exit the vehicle. Although employees told her to stay seated while the vehicle was removed from the track, other ride operators did not realize that her vehicle was supposed to be removed and accidentally sent her through the ride a second time. She arrived at the unloading zone semi-conscious. The victim was subsequently taken to Palm Harbor Hospital where she remained in a coma and died one week later. The coroner’s report attributed the death to natural causes: a heart tumor had dislodged and entered her brain. A subsequent lawsuit against the park was dismissed.[56]
In 1983, an 18-year-old man from Quartz Hill, California, fell off Space Mountain and was paralyzed from the waist down. A jury verdict found that Disneyland was blameless in the accident that left the teenager partially paralyzed. During the trial the jury was taken to the park to ride Space Mountain, and several of the cars were brought into the courtroom to demonstrate how they work.[57]
On August 2, 2000, nine people suffered minor injuries when the ride’s safety control systems caused the train to stop abruptly. This was Space Mountain’s first mechanical problem since its opening in 1977.[58]
In April 2013, Disney voluntarily closed Space Mountain, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and Soarin’ Over California due to OSHA-related issues so employee safety protocols could be reviewed. Downtime for each attraction differed, with Space Mountain being closed the longest at one month. The safety review stemmed from seven OSHA fines that were initiated from a contractor injury in November 2012, where the worker fell down the outside of the Space Mountain building and broke several bones. OSHA fined Disney $235,000, and also fined the contracting company $61,000 for safety violations.[59]
whose Dad was a mailman...
And whose state has 2 unsolved mass murders take place within it in the last couple of years...
I take it back. The gender reveal party shooting had 1 death. The woman who claimed she’d lost her baby lied. So 1 dead, eight wounded, and no arrests yet. Nice work, Kasich.
You and anoles seem to have a long and storied history.
I remember you identifying the lizards in my back yard as anoles a while back, and remember you mentioning an escape of anoles near you when a truck crashed and accidentally released them, spreading them to the four winds.
So yeah: cool!
Actually, it was NOT anoles which escaped on Long Island when a pet shop truck crashed. It was Italian Wall Lizards, a very attractive species. Here are pics of the two species. They are just about the same size, and have a very similar conformation.
