July 26 (UPI) -- Close to midnight on Sunday, Southaven, Miss., police arrived at the wrong house to serve an arrest warrant and shot a man dead in his own home, according to reports.
Ismael Lopez, 41, was shot dead late Sunday night after he checked to see who was at his front door. But the police were supposed to be across the street to serve an arrest warrant for Samuel Pearman, who was wanted on an assault charge, reported WREG.
"Someone didn't take the time to analyze the address," said Murray Wells, the attorney representing Lopez's family. "This is incredibly tragic and embarrassing to this police department that they can't read house numbers."
DeSoto County Prosecutor John Champion said it was "possible" that police went to the wrong house and confirmed that Lopez's name was not on the warrant.

Yeah, I can see that being a problem.
The article doesn’t describe the police clothing. Police usually wear uniforms and are fairly easy to notice as being police.
There's part of the problem. "Civilian" is the opposite of "military". Police are civilians. "Search and destroy" is NOT part of their mission. They're also servants. Or they're supposed to be. But they think they're masters. A few of the more egregious of them going to prison, in general population, might help to put them back in their proper place.

Would you say the same thing if it was an off-duty cop that they murdered?
Would you advise off-duty cops to always make sure they’re unarmed when a gang of armed thugs tries to break down their door?

cops should have had a picture of suspect, a picture of house showing address and should have known that was his residence and reason to believe he was in the residence at time of serving warrant..also it apparently was a nightime warrant

That’s not how justice works.
A cop exercising good reason shouldn’t be held criminally liable for a mistake. Just the same as you shouldn’t if you acted reasonably and defended yourself. Whoever made the mistake of pointing then to that house may be criminally liable. They’re all certainly civilly liable. At least the department is. Criminality requires recklessness or malice of some sort and not simply “something bad happened”.
But having a drumhead trial isn’t how justice works.

We’ve already seen a case in Texas where a man shot the police in self-defense and was rightfully acquiited because the cops were in the wrong.

No, it would most likely be ruled either accidental or negligent. The cops who acted in good faith and had no role in the error that lead to the incident will just be marked as commiting an accidental homicide. If any of them employed negligence it will be classed as negligent homicide or manslaughter.
