Attorney General Jeff Sessions is pressing on with his job despite President Trump's public criticism of him, and plans to announce in coming days a number of criminal leak investigations, according to a report Tuesday night.
The Washington Post says Sessions is preparing to announce a series of leak probes related to recent news accounts publishing "sensitive intelligence information."
Earlier Tuesday, Trump said he is "disappointed" that Sessions hasn't been tougher on leaks from the intelligence community.
"I want the attorney general to be much tougher on the leaks from intelligence agencies, which are leaking like rarely have they ever leaked before at a very important level," Trump said during a press conference in the Rose Garden. "These are intelligence agencies. We cannot have that happen."
The comments were a continuation of Trump's week-long public criticism of Sessions, which have stoked speculation the president may fire his attorney general, or push him to resign.
Trump's criticisms about Sessions began last week, when the president told the New York Times he is disappointed that Sessions recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Trump has since publicly criticized the attorney general on Twitter, calling him "beleaguered" and questioning why Sessions hasn't investigated Hillary Clinton.
The Post reported Tuesday night that in a recent conversation, Sessions' chief of staff Jody Hunt told White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus that the attorney general has no intention of resigning.
Sessions continued his work on policy Tuesday, issuing new requirements to a Justice Department grant program so that so-called sanctuary cities that limit their role in helping enforce federal immigration law do not receive funding.
No, he’s fine where he is. Remember the statements about what Comey did wrong? First among those complaints was talking about people under investigations. We don’t like it, but there is a reason for it.
I think there are a lot of corruption investigations going on and as they ripen they will be revealed.
Lessee... hmmm...what has changed? Maybe the new FBI director is now in place? Trump is brilliant. If you follow twitter, follow Thomas Wictor.
Real nice analysis, Dave. One thing I know for sure: with Trump in the White House, America is in good hands...
“I dont think he is going to be escorted out. I think there is a lot more going on than we know.”
Forget it. Reality and sanity never work with lynching parties. The lynching urge must be in the DNA of the (Let’s lynch the bastard. We don’t care if he is guilty or not!)
Thanks!
Thanks for posting this reality: “One thing I know for sure: with Trump in the White House, America is in good hands...”!
Sessions can't fire Mueller.
True. I think this is the most fascinating administration I have ever seen. Sometimes you think you have things figured out but don’t want to give away the game. Fun!

“Should have announced it 6 months ago.”
That is what I am wondering. What took him so long?
A leak about a leak investigation.
That’s brazen.

Best election in my life time and the best president!
Trump is bashing Sessions again on twitter right now.
I wonder if making this “announcement” isn’t something akin to lighting the brush pile (or garbage) on fire just to see what comes running out from the crevices...
As a motivational tactic bashing Sessions on Twitter was gawdaful brutal and ugly.
But, by God.....it WORKED!
I wasn’t so sure at first but I am starting to believe again that you are correct. I tried to support Sessions against those who want him ejected with malice but was starting to wonder. Now I am starting to believe they are both playing 3D chess and setting a trap that will have us all cheering.
I don’t think your comment is fair. The Department of Justice is TASKEd with investigating and prosecuting. How are they supposed to arrest and try without investigating? Moreover they BUSTED that ringleader of the House Democrat IT scandal just yesterday as he was trying to leave the country. It hasn’t been a BAD week so far.
The problem is about to take care of itself without SESSIONS input.
If the leaks continue then Ive got to let everybody go. We will probably restructure, the communications department. - Anthony Scaramucci
Attaboy Dave, you nailed it!
Wray is going through confirmation hearings right now.
