A US Navy ship fired warning shots at an Iranian patrol boat that came within 150 yards of it in the Persian Gulf.
The Iranian boat is believed to have been operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to a defense official familiar with details of the incident. The officials said the Iranian boat approached and came within 150 yards of the USS Thunderbolt, a US Navy patrol ship.
The USS Thunderbolt was accompanied by the USS Vella Gulf, which is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, and two other US Coast guard vessels at the time.
The Iranians did not respond to any warnings from the US ship, including radio calls, firing of flares and five short blasts from the US Navy ship's whistle, which is the internationally recognized communications signal for danger, the officials said.

“When are we going to grow up and sink the bastards?”
No need to. We did what we had to do today. It sent a clear message.
Don’t forget “cry.” Remember the sailor that cried because of the mean ole Iranians who yelled boo at them.
Well actually they weren’t attacking but getting closer than the captain of the ship wanted hence the warning shots.
The Coast Guard is under Navy control only during a declared war. Did someone declare war? Otherwise, what were two Coast Guard vessels doing so far away from the coast of the United States?
During the 60’s USCG patrolled Vietnamese coast.
Real unusual. Except there were USCG vessels and personnel in Viet Nam and almost all of those poor f*ckers I talked to were overjoyed when they got accepted into the Coast Guard so they wouldn’t have to go to Viet Nam.
The only Coast Guardsman to be awarded the Medal of Honor:

The USS Thunderbolt, alone, could probably sink the bulk of the Iranian navy.
And she’s but 339 tons.
But she could support dual Harpoon launchers if the USN was smart enough to mount them.
In WWII, the British grounded one of their own WW1 destroyers into a Nazi submarine dock. An intentionally-delayed explosion killed many of the enemy when it blew up the following day. 'Hoping we remember such tactics when the enemy should collide larger ships with ours.
They were allowed to wave with two hands held straight up. And the women were allowed to immediately don hijabs to protect the Iranians from actually seeing a woman’s hair with all the damage that might do to the lads.
I hope a video of this gets posted. I miss my war porn.
Yeah, those muzzie would wind up driving their little boat in circles making them dizzier.
What an odd name for a US ship. Unless there was like an Admiral Thunderbolt I’ve never heard of, that would be awesome.
Thank you
We have US Coast Guard ships in the Mediterranean?
