Of course ‘Dalit’ is not a religion, rather the lowest caste in Hindu society, an ‘untouchable’, one considered ‘impure’ and assigned to the lowest tasks, such as handling animal carcasses and human waste, a position from which they are born to, and remain. It is exactly because of how they are treated by Hindu society, that Jesus’ message strikes a chord with ‘Dalits’. Jesus taught that ALL are equal before God, He is not a respecter of titles. Some are born with wealth and prestige and others are not.

I am not sure what you mean by being ‘tolerant of other religions’. Are the comments of senior BJP members, the burning of churches, the raping of nuns, the assaults and killings of clergy and especially Christian converts from Hinduism, are these examples of ‘tolerance’ that I should be ‘tolerant’ of?

You mention that, “I do not believe that Hindu beliefs is the only way to reach God.” Neither Hindu. Muslim, Buddhism, or any other ‘religion’ can ‘reach God’. Jesus is the ONLY way! In John 14:6-7 (NIV) , Jesus states, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

You, me, everyone has a right to believe anything they choose, no matter what they believe, no matter how wrong they are, as long as they do not harm anyone. If you mean by ‘tolerant’, that I accept your proposition that through other religions, one can ‘reach God’, then call me ‘intolerant’, as I will never ‘learn to be tolerant of other religions.’ There is but one way, JESUS!

As He is the ONLY way, THAT is why missionaries leave the wealth and ease of Western society to spread the Word in poor parts of the world, areas where the Word has only limited or no exposure. That is why local, itinerant preachers in extremely poor Nations’, suffer persecution to spread the Word. They know that their sharing the Truth, may save some people from eternity in hell. THAT is why they risk so much to proselytize.
