It is, but your attitude towards government using taxes as a punitive weapon against things they dont like is far more disturbing.
It is the same crap ideology behind ammo taxes, extra taxes on guns because of gangbanger violence, extra taxes on vehicles with big engines, etc etc.
Same reverse crap on big brother subsidies for things it likes, such as electric/hybrid cars, and other crap.
can we figure out a way to tax liberalism?
Sick of government entities taxing people to shift behavior. That is not their job.
I don’t want the nanny state!
Everywhere a soda tax is added, they need to remove soda from the list of WIC and Welfare acceptable items to purchase.
Part of the Cook County deal is that “folks” with EBT cards DO NOT pay the extra tax on soda. It would be unfair to them to pay, so they say. Plus this not a tax on just surgery drinks, this also includes diet beverages with no calories, and iced teas.
Cheese except real high end used to be reasonable, now it’s expensive, and we are ‘sitting’ on millions of lbs of regular cheese, driving up the price. Same with all dairy.
Only in your opinion, but it's good to see that at least some FR members have resisted the siren song of limited government as envisioned by the founders and are going full bore statist. 0bama and Hillary would be so proud.
Liberal cities never tax things that liberals eat or drink.
A tax based on skin color?
How “progressive”!

Soda Tax...the ultimate panacea?

-—regressive taxes-—
An archaic term to describe taxes on those that pay no taxes otherwise.
The price for selling your vote is a regressive tax
Right, but that is because the two sweeteners are about the same cost again.
They switched to corn sugars because it was cheaper at the time. (back in the late 80s or so? it was around the “new” coke time)
it was not that long ago up and at um with Jack and Ben got in to the numbers on how much sugar/corn sugar Coca-Cola uses and the costs involved. Even a 1 cent price difference turns in to millions for them.
I’d be interested in knowing if cans/bottles of unsweetened tea are included in these abusive tax schemes.
It is my understanding that yes, they are, but even if they're not initially, next your they will become a "loophole" that needs to be closed - never mind that the original premise was that they wouldn't be taxed.
“wait ‘til they slap a big tax on something you like; I bet you’ll squeal loudest of all. “
They already have——so now the soda drinkers can pay taxes.
.
” It is, but your attitude towards government using taxes as a punitive weapon against things they dont like is far more disturbing.”
I’ve been against this type of tax since the early 90s,but it was cigarette taxes and no one gave a damn then so why on earth should I give a damn now.
It seems folks are ONLY against these taxes if it’s on something that they like,if they don’t like the product taxes are just fine. That’s hypocritical.
.
Even here on FR there are those that approve of cigarette taxes, which are very high in many places.
.
Always a tax with these people.
I had to stop drinking Coke several ago and switched to diet sunkist. Now I had to give that up. No more high fructose syrup and Aspartame. It causes heath issues with me. Regular cane sugar so far is ok for my stomach : )
Use a cap full of Pepto Bismo for a week to clear out your innards and you will feel better.
How long until Indian reservations start selling soda? Forget Tobacco Barn, Soda Barn.
In Philadelphia people stopped buying soda and switched to Koolaid.
