Charlie Gard will be allowed to die after his parents today made the heartbreaking decision to let him 'slip away'.
Chris Gard and Connie Yates arrived at the High Court in tears as they ended a campaign to save his life that has touched millions around the world.
They have battled for six months for their beloved 11-month-old son to be flown to the US for pioneering drugs to treat his rare strain of mitochondrial disease.
But they have now decided to let him die clearly believing that Great Ormond Street's refusal to let him travel to a New York hospital had cost him his chance.

RIP. Maybe the Charlie story will bring home a point to Republicans in Congress
This story is so monstrous I dont know how these parents will even begin to get over it
How sad. Prayers up for little Charlie.
Heartbreaking. May the Lord quickly take young Charlie into His loving arms, and bless his family with peace.
Justice delayed . . .
Charlie Gard is the face of single payer
(What I'd do).
This is a great victory for Socilised Medicine!
I just can’t wait until we get Single Payer and Death Panels here!
The Cost Containment Board DEATH PANEL Wins the final round...
Sarah Palin was right (as usual). Let the government run health care, and you will get death panels.
Read a couple days ago that he latest brain scan was devastating. We’re only being given partial information here. Very sad of course.
He's being kept alive by machines, take him off the ventilator and he'd be dead by the time you got him to the hospital exit door.
Well, the hospital and court have successfully run out the clock. What would his brain have looked like on a scan a full SIX MONTHS ago?
So sad.
The Seals should kidnap him and his mom and dad.
I can’t help but think the parents were threatened with losing their own health care, if they kept up this battle. They still have to live in Britain.
There is an earlier thread that explains it better.

A private airplane would be even better. But if I recall correctly, officials would not allow the parents to remove the child from the hospital. Perhaps now they will let the parents take him home.
I read on redstate that they made this choice after a us Doctor looked at the scans and records. I suspect this choice to let him pass was based on his opinion.
“A good position to take, as it’s summer, and a sailing multi-hull can whisk the infant to the US in just a few days.
(What I’d do). “
I’d renounce my citizenship an have Trump send his 757 over to bring the family to the US.
