The Trump administration is readying for a crackdown on marijuana users under Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
President Trumps Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety, led by Sessions, is expected to release a report next week that criminal justice reform advocates fear will link marijuana to violent crime and recommend tougher sentences for those caught growing, selling and smoking the plant.
Sessions sent a memo in April updating the U.S. Attorneys Offices and Department of Justice Department (DOJ) component heads on the work of the task force, which he said would be accomplished through various subcommittees. In the memo, Sessions said he has asked for initial recommendations no later than July 27.
Task Force subcommittees will also undertake a review of existing policies in the areas of charging, sentencing, and marijuana to ensure consistency with the Department's overall strategy on reducing violent crime and with Administration goals and priorities, he wrote.
Criminal justice reform advocates fear Sessionss memo signals stricter enforcement is ahead.
The task force revolves around reducing violent crime and Sessions and other DOJ officials have been out there over the last month and explicitly the last couple of weeks talking about how immigration and marijuana increases violent crime, said Inimai Chettiar, director of the Brennan Center's Justice Program.

Majoring in minors.
The best way to get Mexican cartels and gangs out of our national forests is to subject them to legal competition - as has prevented the proliferation of alcohol stills in our national forests.
Anyhow, she is a former Federal Government employee..As we all know the laws do not apply US Gov employees.
Maybe we could lynch Martha Stewart as Hillary’s surrogate?
I wish he was as big on prosecuting the crimes of the Obama/Clinton gangs as he is on busting dopers.
“A good idea but there are bigger fish to fry Jeff.”
That’s my thought.
Or, maybe he’s protecting the pill industry.
“In ifinnegan land if you support the legalization of cannabis you automatically are a leftist or a marxist, or a pothead “
Yep. Or just a useful idiot.
And you didn’t answer if you’ve ever smoked pot. It was asked in the context of your ludicrous comparison to alcohol.
So many liberals who are all for drug legalization have actually never even tried drugs and have no idea what they are talking about in saying, oh alcohol is worse.
I’m wondering if you are one of those types of liberals, but I think not. You seem more a lying propagandist than ignorant bleeding heart moron.
It's incumbent upon someone willing to call out cowards, to be the example in their actions, or for the slow witted, deeds not words. You apparently don't have the courage of your convictions. Your slander is duly noted.
More likely the defense lawyer/Prison industry.
It kinda all makes sense now, why he was the first to endorse. Best way to control the opposition is to BE it.
We could have state national guards do periodic sweeps of the forests, too. This might offer opportunities for people to enlist in national guards as a career opportunity if they are not college-bound.

“Theres a reason the left and liberals have promoted dope smoking so hard for so long.”
Silly you would preclude anyone who ever smoked a joint from voting conservative, or America First.
“Silly you would preclude anyone who ever smoked a joint from voting conservative, or America First.”
That makes no sense.

Sorry Will88, if you really want to press it, I am not so sure it was groundless...You are going back to November following the election. However Trump may very well have changed his mind...
From June 2017: His own tweets...
Let me clarify, I had just hoped maybe Sessions was doing something effective behind the scenes. According to you, he is doing what he is doing...I will add border to list; however, I am not sure how much of that is rightfully credited to him directly.
The fact that the State Department and DOD are a mess does not take away from the fact that Sessions recusal put Trump in this pickle...for that I will never support Sessions.
My question to you is why are you such an ardent Sessions supporter given what he did to President Trump?

Perhaps it's your IQ that is the problem?
How much did you sell this week?
It made no sense logically. (Not in terms of the sentence).
You’re on the low side of the scale too, aren’t ya?
And swamp criminals walk free....
Have YOU ever tried pot? If not, then how can you know the difference?
You can die of too much alcohol. Or too many cigarettes. Both legal products. Too much pot never Killed anyone. Fried their brains maybe, but isn’t that part of freedom and individual choice? But, nanny-staters like yourself don’t like individual choice and freedom. You’d rather have the government deciding how we should live.
Waste of time, money and political capital.
Whether he approves this policy or not, it couldn't be more obvious that it's misguided in terms of priorities, demonstrates a profound ignorance regarding federalism, and flies in the face of a glaringly obvious trend throughout the several States.
It looks like this administration may finally have found a way to alienate—or at least alarm—its base.
If the People wanted tired old naive Prohibitionist policy on the Drug War, they could have elected Hillary, or nominated some Establishment Republican.
This is just foolish with a capital "F" on the part of Sessions. I'm now convinced that he's totally out of touch with contemporary American thought on marijuana laws.
What an idiot! I'm officially giving up on AG Jeff Sessions in terms of the priorities he's promoting. And if President Trump is gung-ho about this, it's the first significant strike against him, in my book...
