Congress Reaches Deal on Russia Sanctions, Creating Tough Choice for Trump

WASHINGTON — Congressional leaders have reached an agreement on sweeping sanctions legislation to punish Russia for its election meddling and aggression toward its neighbors, they said Saturday, defying the White House’s argument that President Trump needs flexibility to adjust the sanctions to fit his diplomatic initiatives with Moscow.

The new legislation sharply limits the president’s ability to suspend or terminate the sanctions — a remarkable handcuffing by a Republican-led Congress six months into Mr. Trump’s tenure. It is also the latest Russia-tinged turn for a presidency consumed by investigations into the Trump campaign’s interactions with Russian officials last year.

Mr. Trump could soon face a decision: veto the bill — a move that would fuel accusations that he is doing the bidding of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia — or sign legislation imposing sanctions his administration abhors.

“A nearly united Congress is poised to send President Putin a clear message on behalf of the American people and our allies, and we need President Trump to help us deliver that message,” said Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The swamp runs deep.

If I didn’t know better, I might suspect that the insiders are working together to oppose the American people.

Yet they can’t replace the hideous Obamacare. Russia didn’t undermine our elections.

It’s not on behalf of the American people, it’s on behalf of those who are lining their pockets.

He can do a pocket veto which means he doesn’t sign the bill. They are usurping the power of The presidency, they obviously have no respect for the people or the Constitution.

Russia is guilty of many things. Helping a pro USA nationalist that places the USA first above all others isn’t on of them.

These people have no idea how furious the Americans who elected Trump are at the unending attempts to subvert our choice.

I hope they will gain some insight into this in 2018.

Deepstate obama and liberal thugs created need a villain. The greatest threat to us is islam but the villain couldn’t be muzzies because that would be politically incorrect. The face of Russia is white males so they”re an open and easy villain target.

That’s something. The Uniparty is acting in unison with Ryan, McConnell, Pelosi and Schumer all singing “Kumbaya”.

They are giving Trump a blanket bill that encompasses North Korea, Iran and Russia all in one.

Regarding Iran, big business interests are selling the Iranians aircraft (Boeing 100, Airbus 83) and I want to know if these sanctions affect that.

The GOP led by Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee rigged the Iran nuclear deal so it would pass in the interests of lifting sanctions so the big business interests like Boeing and Airbus would be taken care of.

the same congress that won’t pass a one sentence bill to repeal Zero-care

and refuses to reform the miserable tax code that, with O-care, is causing millions of Americans to be without work

and
which apparently will do NOTHING to stop Snake Department/Obama era subsidies to PLO/PA/Abbas terrorist mass murder gang

USA would be better off without this horrible Congress

Veto. A good opportunity for Trump to say it would be wrong to penalize a nation with a lot of fraud.

It shouldn’t be a very tough choice, just veto it. It is not like the swamp creatures will work less with the President afterwards.

Despite what the Fake News says, Trump won the popular vote and has only become more popular since being elected. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t support the president. They are going to try to get rid of Trump. But when they do, the people will rise up and rally behind our chosen leader.

I’m 100% certain that the military is on Trump’s side as well. If it comes down to that, Congress will be out of luck.

Trump’s going to veto it. And then he’s going to put the GOP traitors in congress through hell for their disloyalty.

If president Trump vetoes this bill and Congress overrides his veto, the 2018 primaries will become extremely interesting...

I won’t vote for any republican with “incumbent” beside his name....
