President Trump is talking to Senator Ted Cruz and others about what they would do differently as Attorney General, should Jeff Sessions resign, as reports indicate.
White House sources also report President Trump was truthful when he made comments expressing buyers remorse over appointing Jeff Sessions to the role. Trump staffers believe Sessions, Donald Trump Jr, and Rohrabacher aide Paul Behrends were unfairly scapegoated due to the left-wing Russia narrative.
In addition, a replacement for special prosecutor Bob Mueller is being acitvely discussed as the President weighs the decision to fire the Rosenstein-appointed prosecutor. Many within the Trump camp see Mueller as acting in bad faith with the investigation due to partisanship, and are urging the appointment of a truly independent alternative.
Facing criticism as a political witch hunt by many, Bob Mueller has hired a whos who of liberal activists as his team of prosecuting attorneys. Research on Mullers prosecutors is being conducted for the administration by Chuck Johnsons team. Finally, top Trump donors are funding their own research operation independent of the White House in order to push back against the medias fake Russia narrative conspiracy theory.
He hasn't put the squeeze on sanctuary cities, nor has he taken a vocal stand against the ridiculous court rulings on travel bans. In short, he hasn't moved one angstrom away from go-alone-get-along. His 'awe shucks' manner appears not to be an act.... it's for real.
I say that is a good thing.
I totally agree. I like Ted Cruz and what he stands for.
Upon what objective evidence do you make that last claim? Anti-Sessions comments run at least 80% on every thread concerning him on FR.
He was well liked by the base when He was in the Senate. Since becoming AG, he's done a miserable job, and has put Trump's presidency in danger, so no, the base isn't too keen on him at this point.
Sessions has earned whatever enmity he gets from the President.
“I’m not sure throwing Sessions under the bus is a good idea. In fact, I think it’s a bad idea. The base likes him. Trump should wait at least until the midterms.”
Well, I’m part of “the base,” and I think Sessions should be gone today! It isn’t that he’s a bad guy, he’s just not up to the job. Too many years in the do nothing Senate where a good job has very different parameters. The idea of waiting out half of his first term to get an effective AG in place, would not bode well for Trump’s agenda.
And Cruz is also a Senator which would help get the confirmation process moving. The open question would be whom to replace Cruz with in Texas.
Hes still serving.
The recusal was a big mistake and it has hurt the Trump agenda and the country. It's important that Trump speak the truth publicly on such an important point. To be silent on the recusal, is to perpetuate the lie, that the "Independent" Council is really independent.
The stakes are high and I would hope that Sessions can understand that. This is not about Sessions personally. This is about the truth, corrupt Washington, the co-opting of an election and the future of our country.
Trump's comment and the truth now stand for all to see.
“Why doesnt Trump complain about Ryan and McConnell not defending him instead of saying that about Sessions to the NYT?”
They don’t work for him and they have power.
I can get on board with Cruz as AG. Then, if it works out — and it probably would — then put him next in line for SCOTUS appointment.
I’ve been impressed with the way Cruz has dealt with everything after such a contentious election, insults, hurt feelings, etc. If sincere, he’s to be admired.
Exactly. Flooding the zone is a great way to get things done. Madcow pimped Al Capone's vault, er, the Donald's 2005 tax returns March 14...
Same day, Trump signed "Comprehensive Plan for Reorganizing [ed. note: coff coff eliminating coff coff much of...] the Executive Branch".
i have to admit he has bounced back rather well.
Save it until he runs again.
Well, you brought it up. Quit talking about Cruz running for president, and you won't have to hear it.
“His basic problem is that DOJ is saturated with career employees who are Democrats and are working against him. That being the case, every appointed employees must be a passionate Trump supporter. If that is not the case, then fire and hire to make it so!!!”
And do you see ANY evidence that Sessions is doing a damned thing about the DOJ swamp? Nothing, nada, zip as far as I can see. If he had any balls, Rod Rosenturd would have been gone the day after he appointed Mueller. Sessions, by his lack of involvement, has given carte blanche to Rosenturd’s actions.
Do it NOW, Trump!
They're not Trump's employees. Sessions is.
Whoa!
Great point.
Congratulations on joining the Alinsky brigade.
Birtherism is the greatest Alinsky ever perpetrated.
They have gotten the American people to reject one of the most valuable safeguards bequeathed to us by the founders.
The natural born citizen clause served us well until we ignored it.
Barry Soetoro/Barack Hussein Obama should be proof enough of the wisdom of the founders when they tried to prevent him from being President by requiring someone who could only be a US citizen and nothing else.
Born here of citizen parents.
Naturally a US citizen because there is no other possibility.
One cannot be anything else and also be a natural born citizen.
It does not matter if he was born in Hawaii if his father was a foreign national.
Children of foreign nationals inherit the nationality of their foreign national parent(s).
Natural born citizen means born here of citizen parents.
No other possible citizenship(s).
Only when one cannot be anything else can one be a natural born citizen.
No foreign birth.
No foreign parent(s)
No foreign citizenship(s)
No foreign influence on the Presidency is what John Jay stated in a letter to George Washington as the reason for insisting on a natural born citizen.
Obama told us he was born a British subject.
Who believes Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Jay, Monroe, Madison, etc. would have found him to be a natural born citizen?
Who believes they would have thought the recently deceased King of Thailand was eligible to be President?
He was born in Cambridge MA.
Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009, happened with the complete cooperation of both parties.
They want the Constitution changed without the hassle of amending the Constitution.
Confuse people about the clear meaning of a three word phrase and voila, every anchor baby and Winston Churchill is eligible.
The bench was the reason the GOP went along with the fig leaf resolution for McCain that was used by the Democrats as cover for Obama.
Jindal, Rubio, Haley, George P. Bush and Cruz were all up and comers and the future of the party and ineligible.
The truth of the Kenyanesian Usurpation will never see the light of day because both parties cooperated in the violation of the Constitution
Congratulations on your birtherism. Hope you have a chance to use it again. I always found those threads to be most amusing.
Sessions could rescind that recusal today and start an aggressive prosecution against Clinton organized crime activities. But I don’t think he has the right stuff.
The ball is in Sessions court. The President has given him fair warning. Sessions can either get with the program or slink away with his tail between his legs.
He’s a natural born Canadian.
With all the issues Jeff pulls on these. He's now a disappointment from my view. Should have cleaned out that corrupt DOJ.
