Trump to GOP senators: Cancel your recess
The Hill ^ | July 19,2017 | Jordan Fabian

President Trump told GOP senators at the White House on Wednesday that they should cancel their August recess and not leave town until acting to repeal ObamaCare.

"We shouldn't leave town until this is complete," he said during a lunch at the White House. "We should hammer this out and get it done."

Trump also said that repeal isn't enough, and that Republicans should also replace ObamaCare with new legislation.

"We can repeal, but we should repeal and replace,” he said.

"Frankly I don’t think we should leave town unless we have a health insurance plan, unless we can give people great health care," he continued. "Because we’re close. We’re very close.’’

The president challenged the GOP senators, saying that anyone who votes against beginning debate on the legislation is saying “you are fine with ObamaCare."

Trump’s opening remarks at the luncheon were open to the press and quickly broadcast on cable television.

The president took a scolding tone at times during his remarks, urging GOP lawmakers to keep their campaign promises.

But the public tongue-lashing from Trump might not be well received by Republican senators, many of whom believe he has failed to master the details of the healthcare proposal and did little to sell it.

How would he enforce that request? How does he put any leverage on stinking congress?

Agree w Donald here.

There has never been a perfect bill, and in this case, soon-to-be former senators who oppose the bill are NOT standing on principle, they are voting with Schumer and Feinstein.

So many of the "Republican" Senators don't support a conservative, constitutionalist agenda. They've gotten very sloppy during the Obama administration by promising everything their voting fodder wanted to happen, knowing dang well it would be vetoed and all would be well for those DC swampthings.

President Trump is correct to talk tough to them even if they don't like it. 2/3 of them aren't up for election, so they don't feel threatened. And the sick excuse for Republican leadership? McConnell has been okay with the old game.

It is past time for a Constitutionalist Party.

This latest inability to at least repeal obozocare is a middle finger at the USA from the GOP senators.

These guys are playing with fire and they need to get off the damn stick!

Recess is the one single thing these losers can do well.

US Constitution, Article 2, Section 3

“... he [The President] may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them...”

That 2/3 need to be worried. We don’t like being lied to and we will be patient. We can wait for their terms to be up before we get revenge. We will remember and for their constituents who forget....we have no problem reminding them

-- How would he enforce that request? --

The same way all demands are enforced, at the barrel of a gun. Article II, section 3 of the the US Constitution gives the president the power to convene Congress when it is out; and in specified circumstances, to order it to adjourn

he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper

We can get this done now or the American people, who we serve by the way, will take care of it in 2018.

so let them adjourn, and then bring them back. Chances are, there will be more yes votes who show up. I like the sound of that!

Don't sign a Continuing Resolution I think in September or October - shutdown the government they aren't doing anything anyhow.

Attack Senators major doners programs if possible. And continue to call the Senators out by name.

Most of the ones dragging their heels on the various proposals are not up for re-election in 2018.

The public tongue-lashing puts the Republican senators on the defensive in front of their constituents.

"many of whom" "believe" "he has failed" "and did little" - this part was completely made up from boilerplate and wrong.

After treating your congressional post as a no-show job for the last 9 years, cancel the rest of your life, that calendar is full.
