Dem donors buzzing about Kamala Harris

The Democratic donor class is abuzz about Kamala Harris after the freshman California senator was feted this weekend at an event in the Hamptons surrounded by top fundraisers.

The Bridgehampton event, where Harris mingled with top donors and supporters of Hillary Clinton, was the ultimate signal that Harris is “thinking much bigger” than the Senate, one top bundler said.

ADVERTISEMENT “She’s running for president. Take it to the bank,” another fundraiser said. “She’s absolutely going to run.”

Donors say Harris is giving them a glimmer of hope when they need it the most.

They see the former prosecutor-turned-California attorney general as embodying the qualities a Democratic presidential candidate would need to win the White House in 2020.

They also see the 52-year-old African-American woman as a fresh face.

“There’s a big hunger out there for somebody new and different,” said Bill Carrick, a Democratic consultant who served as an adviser to former Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.), who challenged Harris in last year’s senatorial race.

I have a friend who loves her. I think the AA community feels very favorably about her. My nickname for her is President Kamala. With an eye roll by me.

According to today’s identity politics, which seems to have aligned with the slave-era “one-drop” theory, she is.

Yes. This is how it works, again, one drop and you are black. Only now it’s better to be black than in Eisenhowers day. 25% Black by parentage, he was white. Mariah Carey, same 25%, Black of course.

My little girl is 2% west African, does that count? Lol. Am so sick of race altogether. Wish we could drop the concept. It isn’t helping society.

If sharp is making Hillary look small and foolish on the public debate stage, then yes she is sharp.

Her father was but her mother emigrated from India. Her bio doesn't say when but she attended college in Berkeley in the 60s. Kamala was born in 1964. Was Momsy an illegal alien at that time? Unknown.

I was just googling it.

All references from four or more years ago say that her mother emigrated to the United States in 1960 to attend Berkeley. In 2017, Harris started telling stories that her mother arrived in 1959. That could be important.

Harris was born in 1964, and her mother arrived in 1960. INS regulations say that one has to be a permanent resident (green card holder) for five years before being eligible for naturalization, or three years if married to a citizen during that time. An internet search shows that Donald J Harris and Shyamala Gopalan were married on July 5, 1963. This means that it is unlikely that Harris' mother was naturalized when Harris was born.

Bingo. Good info. I hope she runs and I hope someone puts all this together and files suit to have her taken off the ballot.

You can run a cardboard cutout against any republican and will get at least 40% of the vote.

We couldn’t be so lucky as to have this squish run.
Once she leaves CA, the Hamptons or any blue island, any traction she has turns into wheel spinning.
`80, `84 redux. Run you lefty geek.
