You should pay what you owe. You just have to make sure you are paying the current owner of your debt - which is not easy to do these days. If you pay the “wrong” owner of your debt you are still on the hook for your debt. Many people have lost their homes due to confusion as to the actual owner of their debt.

I bought my first home at age 26. I remember being VERY upset when my mortgage was suddenly ‘transferred’ to some Florida company that I had never heard of! That was in 1986.

The one and ONLY time it happened to me, thank goodness!

That is the crux of the matter ,, I know 100% who wrote my note and the ownership path it took because it has been documented in discovery in other lawsuits,, the party attempting to collect is not a beneficial owner or representing a beneficial owner therefore I MUST FIGHT THEM IN COURT or the real owner may come back to collect.
