I think it all started when it was either Nixon or Johnson who decided to crack into SS to pay for other things like the Vietnam war.
I do not expect to retire. It might happen, but I doubt it.
FDR.
Yep, they no sooner got it then they started spending it.
Of course the headline is nonsense. There is enough money coming in to pay American retirees.
What there isn't is enough money to pay all the people who are getting crazy checks and grandma from China who never worked in the US.
But guess who they want to put the blame on?
Yep.

It started on day one and the first ‘recipient’. It began as a Ponzi; it has grown (as ALL govt does) into another tool to enslave the masses.
Nobody talks about the $120T+ in unfunded ‘liabilities’ (unconstitutional spending, IMO, is null/void).
Just another tax the sheeple have deluded themselves into believing they ‘pay for’ and thus ‘entitled’ to receive.
No, it started with Roosevelt and the original SS Ponzi scheme. Subsequent changes helped fund deficits, but ultimately the program was doomed to fail from the beginning.
Tricky Dick!
However since then, Congress has used SSA receipts as part of the General Fund Revenues, it is too late to save Social Security. Our only hope is that the future generation of payees will make up the deficit! ROTFLHWC
