The parents of terminally-ill baby Charlie Gard have walked out of a High Court hearing to decide if he should undergo treatment.
Charlie's father Chris Gard stood up and said: "I thought this was supposed to be independent," as the couple left the courtroom about two hours into today's hearing.
Mr Gard and his partner Connie Yates are arguing they should be allowed to take give experimental treatment to their 11-month-old for a severe degenerative genetic disorder.
Specialists at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in London, where Charlie is being cared for, say that Charlie has already suffered catastrophic brain damage and there is no prospect for any meaningful recovery.
They say further treatment may cause him pain and that life-support keeping Charlie alive should be stopped.

I understand they are under socialized medicine and the whole death panel bend HOWEVER if doctors state he has suffered catastrophic brain damage that tells me he is in a coma and a vegetable. What could possibly be rendered to this child that would regenerate brain growth? As far as I know when parts of the brain have died they are dead and there is no recuperation.
Which judge? It’s none of his freaking business.
Those parents should steal their baby out of that death trap hospital and country and get over here STAT.
I’d rather those parents should steal their baby out of that death trap hospital and country and get over here STAT. These fascists have already determined this baby’s death. Get that baby out of there.
Congratulations, sir. Right on the mark with your post.
The British government has adopted the Nazi view of those “defectives who cannot contribute to the collective good”
The distant rumble is the “FEW” spinning is their graves. Those “resting” in the Channel are causing higher waves.
Re Charlie being in pain, we shouldn’t believe everything the socialists tell us. The last sentence is from a specialist/medical expert:
‘During the hearing today, the doctor told the court that he thought the therapy was worth trying and believed there was at least a 10% chance of success in Charlies condition by using it. He said he has not seen Charlie experiencing any pain.’

There’s a hospital over here that is ready to try. Dang man, what do you have to lose?
You can’t always trust socialist doctors. They have an agenda:
‘Charlies parents also argue that GOSHs claim that he has suffered irreparable brain damage is erroneous. Armstrong quoted an expert who had reviewed MRI and ECG scans and concluded it didnt indicate any moribund diagnosis.’

After doing some research it is doubtful anything is going to help this poor baby.
But I think it is up to the parents and it is their right to make the decisions not the State or the NHS Doctors. If they want to take him home to die then why not????????
One phone call from the Queen and this is all over.
What is she doing—polishing her silver?
Part of the brain have suffered catastrophic damage, aka died. There is no brain regeneration there today are no known methods to renerate dead brain areas. There are easier battles in which to wage holy crusades against to fight socialized medicine. A child in this condition isn’t one and if the only thing keeping the child alive are machines then Let the poor child die in peace.
Waging a holy political battle against socialized medicine with the backdrop of a child in a vegetative state is just as detestable
I can not judge, 1. I am not a doctor and 2. I have not examined baby Gard. Like I said, whichever is the most humane option for baby Gard, is the one I am going to support.
I’ve watched so called hospitals in the last year keep my grandfather and cousin alive longer than what they should have. Bless them for trying but there comes a time when only a machine can keep you alive to call in hospice, cut the chord and allow someone to go in peace.
The UK has become a morally bankrupt place. The jihadis who have gone there know it’s ripe for the picking.
If this is truly the case I’d be more willing to fight having the kids shipped over. However upon arrival if in a vegetative state there is no sense in keeping him artificially alive
If the Gard parents can pay the hospital bill, it should be their right to try that route.
It’s not up to the government, its up to the parents.
In a nutshell, socialists lie. This is a socialist system and it's the socialists that are telling us he has irreversible brain damage. The socialists have an agenda and want to clear the air for death panels to kill people that cost the system too much money.
I truly hope we have a plane ready to land at Heathrow and bring this child and his family to the USA if this death panel decides to remove this child from life support.
I agree with you on that point no doubt and if the parents wish to do that then have at it. However this to me speaks of an over reaching judiciary and not a case against socialized medicine for if the child truly is being kept alive artificially it is my hope the moral thing is done.
I’m not a dr either. The drs who want Charlie to die are the ones making the pain claim. It’s powerful because no decent person wants a baby to suffer unnecessarily. But the medical expert who’s less invested in Charlie’s death says he has observed no pain.
It’s just very convenient that the same ones who want the baby dead are the ones pushing the pain talking point. Me, I wouldn’t trust these GOSH drs to euthanize a dog. Trust is earned, and they haven’t earned it.
