AUGUSTA — A South Portland Democrat faced sharp criticism Wednesday after suggesting in a Facebook rant that he would harm President Trump.

Maine Republicans were furious over the post by Rep. Scott Hamann and called on House Speaker Sara Gideon, D-Freeport, to take action against him. Some, including Maine Republican Party Executive Director Jason Savage, said Hamann should resign.

He has removed the post from his Facebook page, but the Maine Republican Party made a copy before he did so. In the closing sentence Hamann writes, “Trump is a half term president, at most, especially if I ever get within 10 feet of that (vulgar term).”

Works for me. About 10-15 years for threatening the President of the United States.

Prosecute, try him, put in prison if found guilty. Make an example that no one is immune from prosecution for threatening POTUS, no matter who POTUS is or when it happens.
There are appropriate ways to criticize the Oval Office occupant. Threats of harm aren’t one of them

Threatening the president is a federal crime. Prosecute him and make an example of him.

He’s from Nashua, New Hampshire, arrived in S. Portland after university... Montana State. Degree in Photography and Film. Busted in Israel (2010) for trying to run their Naval Blockade!

Dave Watson, the resident agent in charge of the U.S. Secret Service field office in Portland, said his agency had been made aware of Hamann’s comments. Watson said his office was also receiving phone calls from the general public about the post. “We are looking into it but as to whether an investigation has been opened, I can’t comment on that,” Watson said. “But we have been getting messages.”

Long ago there was a poster here on FreeRepublic that said some things, maybe he should not have said. About Bill Clinton(IIRC). And, yes the SS came knocking on his door to discuss the matter. A long thread on it here somewhere?

And that’s the problem. He’ll get the visit, but not the jumpsuit. Since no one is being arrested, things will build and build. I fear this might lead to something bad.

We are no longer a nation of laws that are applied equally.

Had someone said the same thing about Obama they would be in an orange jumpsuit.

Say anything you want about the president and it is ignored.

This goes to show that the President and family are not safe in the confines of the Capitol or the White House.
