Nelson DeMille’s bestselling novel. Nightfall, opens on July 17, 1996, with a steamy encounter on a Long Island beach. The man and women involved decide to videotape their coupling. In the process, they inadvertently capture the destruction of TWA Flight 800. The novel centers around that video.
Through his many contacts with the NYPD/Joint Terrorism Task Force DeMille learned there was a real video out there. To the best of my knowledge, the FBI confiscated the original from the MSNBC studios in the early morning hours of July 18, 1996.
Although I have communicated with scores of people who saw the video when it briefly aired, I have only spoken to one who knows exactly what he saw. His name is Thomas Young. Here is his story:
In early August 1996, I was admitted to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Hong Kong for ten days with a back injury. My employer, Polar Air Cargo, flew my wife Barbara out to join me as our anniversary was in a few days, and I knew my wife would be worried sick with me being hospitalized in a foreign country.We had little else to do but watch TV as I was in traction for most of the hospital stay. From the first day of being admitted to the hospital until the morning I was discharged from the hospital and boarded a flight for San Francisco, I witnessed a devastating video of a missile launch recorded by an unknown Long Island, NY resident.
The video was re-played every 15 minutes (24/7) on the local English-language, Cantonese-, and Mandarin-language television stations. It was recorded on July 17, 1996.

I remember a video too.
What I remember is a couple at an outdoor bar table and the video was of the man standing there talking with a drink in front h=of him and over his shoulder I saw a streak up white go up to the sky and then an explosion in the sky.
I admit that memory can be faulty but I can almost picture this exactly.

I like Cashill’s book, and in general his theory.
What doesn’t hold water is the notion that by having a NAVY misfire/accident, this would have “doomed” Clinton’s reelection.
I don’t buy that for a second. Clinton could have immediately called for a “review” and promised to “get to the bottom of it” and even shut down some of the Navy (which he certainly would have liked to do). I don’t see how this seriously would have damaged Clinton. So that part doesn’t make sense.

My recollection is exactly the same as yours.
Great book. Tragic event. A friend of mine worked for TWA then and years after. He had access to the hanger where the plane’s recovered parts were stored and reassembled. He knew most of the people who worked on that project. I asked him about it. He said “We screwed up that day.” I asked if he meant TWA and he said “NO”. That’s all he would say.

I have read quite a few articles written by Jack Cashill on the subject, and he has apparently identified the type of missile that it was.
I do remember seeing the video and how Pierre Salinger was crucified for his theory. He very well could have been right or as wacko as the 9/11 truthers. I cannot imagine being a family member and never know the truth. Our government is one shady organization and the Clintons are spawned from Hell.

I think the factor here is that the Centennial Olympic Park Bombing occurred 10 days later. Clinton likely felt that he couldn't have two terrorist incidents within a week of each other as he was going into the 1996 DNC convention in less than a month.
So he ordered the NTSB and the FBI to make this into an accident, and Richard Jewell was immediately made into the public scapegoat to get the Olympic bombing off the news.

It would do worse than hurt the Clintons, and that is exactly why the truth isn't being brought out.
It would cause a confrontation with Iran, and that's why they are refusing to speak about it.
I liked his novel about Plum Island-——I was horrified to find out that the place even existed.
