~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Fort Drum, New York Fort Drum is a U.S. Army military reservation and a census-designated place in Jefferson County, New York. It is home to the 10th Mountain Division.
Fort Drum consists of 107,265 acres and temperatures can reach as low as −30 °F. Its mission includes command of active component units assigned to the installation, provide administrative and logistical support to tenant units, support to tenant units, support to active and reserve units from all services in training at Fort Drum, and planning and support for the mobilization and training of almost 80,000 troops annually. A portion of the present Fort Drum was purchased for use as a military training site since 1908, when it was named Pine Camp. However, the army's presence in the North Country may be traced back to the early 19th century.
In 1809 a company of infantry soldiers was stationed at Sackett's Harbor to enforce the Embargo Act and control smuggling between northern New York and Canada. Following the outbreak of the War of 1812, Sackett's Harbor became the center of United States naval and military activity for the Upper St. Lawrence River valley and Lake Ontario.
During the 1830s and 1840s, the Lower Canada Rebellion in Canada prompted a new round of military preparations and Madison Barracks became the home of artillery units. On Feb. 13, 1985, the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) was officially reactivated at Fort Drum, and, as this was written, has been one of the most deployed units in the U.S. Army. The division commander after reactivation was Brig. Gen. William S. Carpenter. The 10th was the first division of any kind formed by the Army since 1975 and the first based in the Northeast since World War II. The 10th Mountain Division (LI) is designed to meet a wide range of worldwide infantry-intensive contingency missions. Equipment design is oriented toward reduced size and weight for reasons of both strategic and tactical mobility. Learn More About Fort Drum HERE!! FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT~Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Please remember: The Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops. The Canteen is family friendly. Let's have fun! We pray for your continued strength, to be strong in the face of adversity. We pray for your safety, that you will return to your families and friends soon. We pray that your hope, courage, and dignity remain unbroken, so that you may show others the way. God Bless You All ~ Today, Tomorrow and Always |

It’s how I got my world famous name. MountainDad.
MountainSon served with the 10th Mountain for 9 years. 3 tours in Iraq.
Very worrisome time.
Fort Drum was a really cool place to visit, especially if your from Nebraska.

No, that is the shoulder patch for the 42nd Infantry Division also known as the Rainbow Division. The unit is a National Guard unit out of Troy, NY and was first formed in 1917. They do they’re summer training at Fort Drum.

Howdy, lauren!
Whew, having a grand time trying to post anything tonight. Soooooo sloooooow.
Many of these road trips bring back fond memories of the PP days, sending care packages galore to deployed troops. This is one of them, having sent packages to several with the 10th Mountain Division.

Howdy, Kathy.
Hope you didn’t have a lot of corrections to deal with this week at work. A no-homework night would be nice. :-)
