Find an Angel, and a (Speed) Demon
Coworker | 7/6/17 | nully

Because FReepers are awesome, I'd like help finding two drivers.

As my coworker tells the tale:

"A very scary story with a happy ending that has left me feeling helpless yet grateful... During yesterday's festivities we participated in our annual tradition of celebrating the 4th at a beach in Tahoe near my Mother-in-law's house. After the fireworks we made the mass exodus back to the house by foot. Traffic is usually pretty insane as everyone is also trying to leave the neighborhood after a long day of partying to get back to their lives.

For the most part there is not much humanity demonstrated and you seldom witness selfless acts of kindness. There were about 15 people in our group and we were split up walking on both sides of the street. Mind you, this is a back street in a residential area and typically there is not much traffic.

It just so happens there was a guardian angel driving a black SUV. He was at a stop sign at a four-way intersection and the cross-traffic (the direction we were walking along) did not have a stop sign. There was a larger group of people ahead of us that had already crossed in front of the black SUV. As we approached the intersection he was very polite and told us to just keep walking and that he wasn’t in any hurry.

Tammy was holding Moly’s hand (our five-year-old daughter) and shortly after crossing the street in front of our angel, Tammy heard him say out load “What is this guy doing!?!”

Just then Moly crouched down like she had dropped something and Tammy lost hold of Moly’s hand. In this split-second a parent’s worst nightmare almost happened in front of her eyes! Moly circled around behind Tammy’s back and immediately bolted across the street to catch up with my Mom.

There was an oversized truck speeding directly behind us going ~50mph. Our angel noticed this vehicle and made a split-second decision to pull out into the intersection forcing this vehicle to make a complete stop to avoid a car-accident. Being that our group had already crossed in front of the black SUV, our angel was looking in the opposite direction, so he didn’t see that Moly was darting out into the middle of the street.

This was when the relativity of time stopped completely. When Tammy had whipped around she saw the oversized truck barreling down the street, and she watched helplessly as she saw Moly run out directly into its path. She let out an earth-shattering scream that brought tears to the eyes of every mother within earshot!

Almost as the same time as Moly, our angel also darted out into the intersection bringing the oversized truck to a screeching halt, ultimately saving the life of my daughter!

Death is one of the only things in this life that is guaranteed and there is nothing that can prepare you for it when it unexpectedly happens to ones you love. There is nothing more heart-wrenching than when it happens to those who die young. As a parent, keeping your child safe is your sole purpose and the hardest job I have ever had to consider! It leaves me feeling so vulnerable knowing how close we came to a life-altering accident. I am grateful that we had a guardian angel watching over us and his actions alone is the sole reason we got to tuck our little girl into bed tonight. I wish I knew who it was so I could send him a Christmas card for the rest of my life!

I wish I also knew who was speeding through the residential neighborhood at 50mph at 10:30pm on the 4th of July when there are 100’s of people walking on a street with no sidewalks so I can also send him a Christmas gift every year that physically kicks him in the gonads!

I have relived this moment too many times to count and I have an overwhelming feeling of gratitude, because accidents happen daily and there are parents out there that do not get to tuck their little ones into bed tonight. It pulls at the heartstrings and it also leaves me with a feeling of helplessness. Life is so precious, and the fact that it is unpredictable, helps remind you how to love and cherish the small things that don’t seem so significant until they are gone."

Beyond protecting their privacy, and adding paragraph breaks into a solid block of text, I didn’t change anything.

I agree with your assessment that the truck wasn’t going 50, if for no other reason than a collision was avoided.

Still, that was his assessment, how accurate would you or I be under the circumstances of nearly seeing our young child obliterated from existence in front of our very eyes?

Me, I wasn’t within 500 miles of there.

I try to live as if I believe, besides it being the decent and civil thing to do, there’s also Pascal’s Wager.

Yeah. I’m hopeful that the close call gave him the incentive to be more careful.

Of course, if he really is a demon, I hope the failure in his mission earns him a prompt recall!

It sounds more and more supernatural to me.

I read an account about a fellow who accepted the Lord for salvation, but didn’t see a screeching change in his life that very moment. Instead, a visible repentance took shape over decades. In fact he got into some pretty bad trouble during that time.

I am trying to remember the name of the book. The author was Zane Hodges. The pastor of a church I used to go to, knew the author. There was a chapter titled “Thunderbird.” This told the story of how our salvation recipient got high on drugs and tried to drive home from many miles away, and there was a Thunderbird behind him who kept on honking whenever he would drift out of consciousness, until he arrived in his driveway — then the Thunderbird was gone.

Angels can appear in heavenly chariots. Why not in automobiles... and why can’t Satan do that too? This is all activity in a supernatural sphere and we should be awestruck because it violates all our earthly rules, yet doesn’t violate God’s rules, the God who permits the devil to sin and yet within constrained limits.

God is patient; He has a grand schedule for things that all our hurry and worry can’t transcend.

Satan goes into the lake of fire, according to the Christian biblical book of Revelation. And so will human souls that insisted on clinging to Satan to the bitter end.

Finding ourselves bitter (unable to release distresses to the care of God) is a sign of having clung to Satan. God can still dissolve that bond. Trusting in His offer of salvation through the Son is the means.

As an aside, and I hope I don’t confuse, the question might arise, what about Jewish people. Well, all Christians used to be Jews. The baton passed almost entirely to Gentiles after Jews found out that a worldly salvation from worldly foes wasn’t always guaranteed by Jesus, and soured on the idea. In modern times? Well some receive an unmistakable conviction about Jesus before they die. Others might still be in the Old Testament condition, where the Savior was met after death (but Christians debate the interpretation of the details from the bible — for example, it is appointed unto all to die and then the judgment). At any rate you got a witness now. If you get a Spirit too, don’t ignore Him. He’s inviting you to go to heaven, starting with earth.

Give God the Praise and Glory! Thanks for sharing.

Angels, like all creatures, are subject to the will of God. Good angels are sent by God to help believers “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”(Hebrews 1:14)

So, are you a Doctor, or was it just a Spell Check attack?

God’s own answer is: you’re quite welcome.

Don’t be too surprised at the national level: there are signs that something like this is coming. This isn’t isolated. God’s going to be bursting out all over, I most sincerely anticipate. This was all planned. God was getting His ducks in a row, and now you are starting to hear the shots.

Something even a lot of nonbelievers will find they can believe in.

Speaking as someone that’s been in the position of your so-called ‘devil’ despite not only being fully within the law but actually going below the speed limit and having encountered parents like this? Yeah, parents tend to vastly underestimate distances, overestimate speeds and demonize those they think were ‘responsible’ for the near accident when their failures to control their children were at least an equal if not greater a contributor than anything else.

When my last cat was less than two years old, he was smarter than this child about crossing the street. He would carefully look both ways before he set paw in the street and constantly keep checking to make sure no cars were coming. If there was a car, he would run to the nearest curb and wait for the street to be completely clear. If it wasn’t clear after a while, he’d simply go do something else and not cross the street. If your five year old child is not smarter than a sub two year old cat about crossing the street, your child *needs* to be on a leash. That may be harsh, but it’s the truth.

Have they considered the fact that if there *was* a collision, the second truck would likely have obliterated anyone standing behind it being ‘shielded’ as the impact would have knocked it spinning? That the parent or parents could also have been killed and then where would their surviving children or family members have been? Since the second “shielding” driver pulled an illegal move to block the road, that driver might have been found at fault for any accident and legally been responsible for causing deaths himself through no real fault of his own. All because this person’s child was not under control.

When stopping for pedestrians, make sure they are aware of traffic speeding from the opposite direction. Honk—otherwise.

I know it was a resurrecting area. Any chance there are businesses nearby that might share their security camera video if you recount the story?

Any more info? Make of SUV? State plate? Driver particulars? South Shore, North Shore? Without some more info not much chance of an ID. Try posting note on the local face book.

I never called him a devil. Demon, certainly, but not devil.

Are you a parent, or just an expert on parenting?

I’m fascinated that you paint the worst possible scenario to make the hero of the story into a bad guy, you must be a lot of fun at parties, assuming you are ever invited...

Early last summer a friend on my senior softball team was cruising with his wife on his motorcycle when a pickup truck coming in the opposite direction made a left turn in front of him. Gary's wife was killed instantly when she was thrown into the oncoming lane and was hit by another car. Gary was seriously injured and required multiple surgeries.

Approx. 4 weeks ago another very close friend was involved in an auto accident over by Lansing, MI. They were on the expressway in a construction zone, traveling maybe 5 mph, when they were rear ended by a pickup whose driver was distracted and hadn't even started to slow down. Mike's wife was also killed instantly...........

Like someone said above, life is fleeting and in the blink of an eye it can end.........
