Within days, this was the second establishment-backed project devised to spruce up the image of Islam in Germany, to go up in flames.
Recently, after dragging its feet for years, the Central Council of Muslims in Germany had agreed to call a march against Islamist terror. The Muslim organization boasted 10,000 registered participants for the "Not with us -- Muslims and friends against violence and terror" rally, scheduled for June 17 in Cologne. On the much awaited day, only a few hundred people turned up, many of them ordinary Germans flanked by a huge media entourage. "Many Turkish weddings are larger than this demonstration," wrote Robin Alexander, columnist in Die Welt.

Liberal Christianity is liberalism with Christmas trees. There is no such thing as liberal *slam. It is a contradiction in terms. *slam IS chopping heads. To expect 7th century savages to stop chopping heads is not to understand *slam.
Islam cannot be modernized or any other “ized” It is what it is and can be no other. It is totally decentralized in enforcement. Rulers cannot impose any change. The totality of it is in the Koran, the Biography, and the Haditha. Anyhing that deviates is Apostasy and punishable by death to be executed by any Moslem at all. The great division between Sunna and Shia is about proper lineage of the Caliph and there is no variance in tenets.
Take it from the moslems themselves...islam is islam. There is no liberal islam. Anyone promoting so-called liberal islam will be declared an apostate and a fatwa calling for their death will be issued.

There can never be a liberal Islam anymore than a liberal Nazi party,Baathist Party or Muslim Brotherhood. The irony is that the Catholic Church and GOP have no problem going liberal. It is strange how that works but understandable considering one’s life is in jeopardy to criticize certain political parties and religions.

That's what jumped out at me. ANY attempt to modernize is fought tooth and nail.
