CNN has come under fire for suggesting it will publish the identity of a private citizen if he behaves in a way that displeases the network.

The video was a legitimate a news story and there would be little if any problem with CNN investigating in order to determine the identity of the person(s) involved.
[[Has there been a demand for cash in exchange for any action or non-action by CNN?]]
Not that I know of.
To be considered
black mail /extortion
they don’t have to demand cash . Forcing someone to do something out of fear is still black mail /extortion
CNN is not a broadcast network and is not subject to most FCC regulations.
CNN is well protected by the First Amendment and with that protection they can report the identities of adults involved in an event worthy of news coverage.
I don’t think doxing is legal - exposing an anonymous internet poster so they’ll suffer financial and potential physical consequences.
If, say, someone hacked FR and all the identities of the users here and their nicknames were made public, you’d be okay with that? If a news organization such as CNN were behind the exposing? Seems legit to you since we’ve made news here many times?
only $85 billion short of a done deal...

CNN crossed a violence line with the kid. We know who the bully is. Right CNN?
The original poster HanAssholeSolo of the Trump CNN video account has been banned? WHY? I don’t see any good reason.

Hacking a website is a crime.
AMAC filed a complaint with the FCC against CNN. Its on Breitbart.
Who said they didn’t? It’s not over yet....
First amendment protections do not exempt news organizations from civil and criminal lawsuits. Given that lawyers work on contingency, do not doubt there will be legal action. Trial lawyers live for stuff like this.
If Obama was still in office, CNN would have had him send some jack-booted thugs to round him, and his family up at gunpoint, similar to what they did to Elian Gonzalez.
It wasn’t a hack. It was a path. Your identity is traceable by your media. They got to it eventually at FaceButt.
This should not be tolerated by the American people. This sounded like a North Korean or Isis confession.
Meme maker is 15 yrs old kid.
Media reports people’s names every day in almost every article.
The FCC has regulatory authority over cable television technical standards and rate/market access. But not program content.
Add threats and intimidation to that list.
Apparently HanA**hole is a 15 year old kid. Some 4chan people tracked him down and saw his facebook profile.
Here are the posts he doesn’t want following him for life:
