John F. Kennedy lowered taxes, opposed abortion, supported gun rights, and believed in a strong military. And he was a proud Democrat. But would he be one today? Author and talk show host Larry Elder explains.

JFK had many moral failings, but he was a patriot who served his country with courage whilst in the navy. He hated communism and despised political correctness.

If JFK were alive today he would be a Trump Republican.

I believe my point was misunderstood. JFK, at the time, would not be considered a Democrat NOW. Teddy, the family idiot, was part of the progressive, Marxist progression towards the Communist regime we have experienced since Bill Clinton. I have NO love for JFK but have studied him since before I went to the service. JFK tried. Bobby attempted to introduce the Marxist party we have now and Teddy figured he could use it to live the good life. Just my breakdown on the whole rotten family. (It’s still going on.)

Today he would still be dead. Addisons takes its toll. He would have been one hundred this year if he lived that long

Yes, my dad makes this point repeatedly.

The Democratic Party has always been corrupt and idiotic, but in the past they were still (largely) patriotic and decent Americans.

Nowadays, they are Marxist, PC, anti-Christ, anti-American. The Democratic Party of Truman and JFK would be Trump supporters today.

It’s not just Democrat vs. Republican.

It’s Liberal vs. Conservative and Globalist vs. Nationalist.

Thus, it’s a 3 fold question at minimum.

My guess is that JFK today would have been more like his brother Ted Kennedy.

Although at the time JFK had the position of many Conservative Republican Nationalists today.

This is in reference to political issues and NOT personal issues. He did cheat all over his wife, and that’s well known.

It’s amazing the confusion about JFK. The guy was a Leftist in training. He began as so many early, equivocal Leftists do - using common sense like lowered taxes, opposed abortion, supported gun rights, and believed in a strong military. But that was only because those things were convenient and could get him elected. JFK was on his way to becoming what Teddy Kennedy became - one of the most destructive leftist politicians ever.

JFK had no guiding moral principle. He was raised by a demagogue who believed in government and JFK was a demagogue in training. His “Ask not” statement which incredibly so many on the Right gush over, is an anti-American, anti-freedom, socialist statement. “We should all live for government”. NO! America is about the God-given freedom to live for you own pursuits of happiness and government is there to protect those freedoms. JFK was simply expressing what he was brought up to believe. His moral and political ambiguity reflected the character of his father who sternly and deliberately raised him.

Not just because of Hiss ( whom the JFK was also instrumental in going after, since he worked with Nixon & Cohen )...ALL stinking commies!

The left/Dems went after Mr. Nixon, because of how he beat Helen Gahagan Douglas ( she was a damned "PINKO"...look up the VERY clever way he called her that, WITHOUT saying a word; it's better than any TWEET Trump has EVER posted! ) for the open Senate seat from California. ;^)

Oh no you do not "know" anything!

And calling me names just makes YOU look like the nutjob YOU are! LOL

It was JFK, influenced by his Francophile wifey, who upped the "advisors" ( military presence ) in Nam!

Your abject lack and understanding of history is appalling.

In the 1960s there were still many conservative Democrats and probably no Republican senators from the South. Things have changed greatly since and George McGovern’s candidacy in 1972 opened the floodgates of conservative Democrats leaving for the Republican party, a process that was largely finished early during the Slick Willie years.

There are no longer any Democrats who stances on the issues align with JFK’s with the possible exception of Joe Manchin, or maybe some obscure members of Congress from some Western states.

JFK talked about "civil rights", whilst Bobby had the FBI tracking & investigating M.L. King Jr. and the whole Civil Rights Movement. JFK did less than nothing for blacks, as president!

Nobody, especially YOU know what JFK would be, today...besides DEAD. ;^)

No he would NOT!

JFK was NEVER supposed to be president; his older brother had been groomed for that position, but died during WW II; so Joe just handed that position down to Jack and made sure that he won....FRAUDULENTLY !

By all accounts, JFK was not all that bright and utterly UNPREPARED FOR THE JOB! He didn't write "PROFILES IN COURAGE", he ran his own PT boat aground, was a thoughtless playboy, and did what he was told to do...by others. Supposedly, Bobby, unlike Jack and Teddy, had the "brains", was a conniving SOB ( like his father ), and was a lefty...even way back when.

OH HORSESHIT!

Everyone "served" during WW II and his father made sure ( paid people off ) to get Jack a commission, which was all apart and parcel of setting him up for a political career later on.

JFK opposed abortion? Who says?

Bobby was pro-abortion in 1964, there’s no doubt. He and Sargent Shriver hosted a confab with the leading porno-theologians in 1964, at which these priests—mostly Jesuits—came up with the “personally opposed...but” and “pluralistic society” ruses.
