As more and more nations throughout the world seek to infuse more private, market-based solutions into their government-controlled healthcare systems, for some reason lefties in this country want to make the same mistake that countries like Canada made decades ago. Let's hope voters in North Carolina and across the US wake up, or else we may be forced to confront "rationing services or injecting massive amounts of new money" into a system that even one of its pioneers admits to being a failure.

What is it with democrats that they need to completely fail in real time with their crap socialist planning? They fail to learn from other countries that have failing healthcare plans. Why do they feel the need to go down the same damn road and think they will get a different outcome??? I hate these damn shit heads!!!

It seems that our friends up north might be waking up. But yet they seem to go lefter, lefter, and more lefter every day.

We are proposing to give a greater role to the private sector so that people can exercise freedom of choice.

NFS! what a novel idea

They’re a little slow on the uptake up there. They’ll come around and put in an at least somewhat conservative PM along about the time the US starts cycling back the other way. In a decade or so, in other words.

Our society is bombarded by leftists from K through 12, then they double down in college and university. Throw in a left-wing media that makes CNN look moderate, Hollywood, popular culture/music, and the vast population of immigrants wanting handouts along with everyone else.

In all honestly, I’m surprised there are ANY conservative thinking people up here at all.

American liberals, in their arrogance, believe that NO socialistic idea has truly been tested until the USA fails at it.

FTA: “We are proposing to give a greater role to the private sector so that people can exercise freedom of choice.”

That’ll never work, silly rabbit...

That's one of Margaret Thatcher's famous quotes..."the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money".

I drive mostly Grade 9 kids on my school bus. I am trying to teach them critical thinking skills. It is hard to do that, facing the ten years of indoctrination they have already received. Hopefully, something may sink in, even into their parents, and they can sift through all the additional propaganda about to come their way in HS and post-secondary education.

There is some hope. Several have spoken sarcastically about ‘being triggered’ and ‘safe spaces’. They are aware enough to realize SOME of the ‘bravo sierra’ that is peddled in school.

After this one particular 15 year old joked about ‘being triggered’, I mentioned something about Roy Rogers’ horse. She apparently searched him on the internet. We had an interesting discussion about ‘being ‘Trigger’ed’ the next day!

Not all single payer is the same - and different schemes meet the needs of different groups, or constituencies.

The Canadian system lacks a private pay safety valve. In the UK, that works reasonably well. It would be even better if private insurance there was more widely available.

Hillary’s bill included a $50 000 fine and FIVE YEARS IN PRISON for a doctor taking a fee to treat a US citizen outside of her system. You can be sure that the Democrat version of single payer will have something like that.

But what people want (and I’ve been sending doctor bills for 43 years) is to take Johnny or Jane in for the sore throat, not seeing a “we take VISA” sign, and having the checkout girl say only,”I hope Johnny feels better soon”.

THAT version of single payer is very doable.

[Quebec was] then the largest and most affluent in the country

If Quebec was the largest back then, I’d say it still is. Provinces seldom shrink.

As for most affluent, it’s hard to believe Quebec was ever more affluent than Ontario, but I’ll take his word for it.

Shoot, Ontario elected a flat-out socialist premiere a few decades ago. He wrecked the provincial economy.

Socialism works(for a time) as long as capitalism is next door. That’s why so many Canadians come here for real health care.
