The Booming Texas Port at the Center of U.S. Oil Exports
Bloomberg via gCaptain ^ | June 26, 2017 | Sheela Tobben and Laura Blewitt

[bloomberg] The Anne docked at Occidental Petroleum Corp.’s terminal to determine if some of the world’s biggest carriers could start ferrying oil from Texas to foreign buyers. The shipping upgrade is necessary after a surge in production from U.S. shale fields like the Permian Basin led to more oil than Gulf Coast refiners could handle. And Corpus Christi is vying to become America’s main export hub.

Good news for Texas - and the U.S.

More good news at Expanded Panama Canal Marks One Year Since Opening
[snip - underlines mine] Another key milestone includes the opening of the Panama Canal to the liquified natural gas (LNG) segment – a first for the waterway. Today, more than 90 percent of the global LNG fleet can now transit the waterway for the first time in history, opening a new market and allowing LNG producers in the United States to ship natural gas to Asia at competitive prices. LPG traffic has also grown exponentially since the inauguration of the Expanded Canal, quickly becoming the second biggest driver of Neopanamax traffic, accounting for 31.5 percent of transiting vessels.

Why go all the way to port? Just offload your oil at the LOOP. (Louisiana Offshore Oil Port).

I admit I know little or nothing of the oil business. Why is it a good idea for us to export oil? Wouldn’t it be better to keep it here and get the prices back to something rational (50 cents to a buck a gallon would be pretty good from my perspective).

Just no knowledge of this industry, but why are we selling stuff to foreigners when they guys I know spend a pretty penny to fuel their work trucks; wouldn’t cheap cheap gas be good for us Americans?

Thanks, again, apologize for my ignorance, don’t understand the energy industry at all

Although I love Whataburger, I'd be willing to bet you can find great Mexican food throughout the city. I'm basing that on my years in El Paso: Alameda street had seemingly hundreds of hole in the wall restaurants with awesome food.

But if it's Whataburger, order me a Sweet and Spicy burger, or the chicken strips sandwich (on a bun, please).

According to one of those articles, our refineries are set up to process heavy crude. What’s being fracked in low-sulfur, lighter weight stuff that is more economically refined overseas.

Approximate oil numbers easy to remember:

US uses 20 million barrels, imports 10 million bbls and exports 5 million bbls, per day.

Directions to any place in Corpus Christi contains the phrase “behind the Whataburger”.

As set forth in the linked article, many of the Gulf Coast refineries are set up to handle heavy, high-sulfur crude oil, as opposed to the light, low-sulfur crude being produced in the newer shale plays. So it's more economical to ship this light crude abroad to refining customers who are already set up to handle it.

If you're looking for 50-cent/gallon gasoline, be advised that price is so far below the cost of production, refining and distribution that the available supply of gasoline at said price will be zero.

Back in 1986, during the oil glut, gasoline was commonly going for $0.899, which was a dollar less per gallon than it had been fetching just three years before. In 1986, at that price, gas retailers were giving the stuff away. That $0.899 gallon of gasoline, in 2016 inflation-adjusted dollars, sells for $1.99.

Your cheap gasoline is here now. Today.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

It’s really important to ignore propaganda, including right wing propaganda.

Here is an easy to see source of info about oil, including US oil. When you get there, click the World dropdown to select US

mazamascience.com/oilexport

See? US consumption is FAR above US production. Whether it comes from NoDak or Texas shale, Alaska, California or the Gulf Coast, you add it allll together and you IMPORT, not EXPORT, IMPORT about 9 million barrels/day because Consumption is far above Production. That graph is all liquids btw, so the numbers are a bit above pure oil. US oil production is in the low 9 millions bpd. AND DECLINING.

The miracle of shale is bullshit. US OIL PRODUCTION DECLINED LAST YEAR.

Here are the major shale companies:

CLR Continental Resources, Harold Hamm’s outfit. Go look up their earnings.

EOG look theirs up too

WLL Whiting Petroleum, same

OAS Oasis Petroleum, same.

ALL ARE LOSING MONEY HAND OVER FIST. IT IS ALL BULLSHIT.

The bridge in this picture has a project already started to be replaced/raised. (That's the USS Lexington in the background.) Valero has a deepwater terminal planned for even larger traffic.

THANK YOU,PRESIDENT TRUMP!! for getting the EPA's boot off our neck.
