Far left Antifa activists are planning to protest at Gettysburg National Battlefield on the anniversary of the historic battle and burn confederate flags on the historic day.
The violent far left group has been vandalizing Confederate monuments across the country this year.

Don’t know where you live, but I highly recommend a visit to the CW museum in Harrisburg, PA.
I am a history buff - though not that interested in the Civil War - and I was blown away when we visited.
“Useful idiots” are naive, brain dead college kids and adults whom are duped into believing socialism works. The Black Bloc people are hard-core communists and anarchists actively working to overthrow the US., not unlike Abbie Hoffman, Angela Davis, et al in the 60s.

Research done in the last few decades indicates that at least two Confederates may be mistakenly buried among the Federal dead at Gettysburg. On the battlefield itself and at the numerous field. hospital sites most of the Confederate dead were removed in the late 19th century but many more remain.
My wife and I had exactly the same feeling when we visited....
I have visited Gettysburg battlefield twice. If I recall correctly, isn’t the only cemetery for the fallen in battle around the Union victory monument? There is a fenced off portion for individual burials but the monument itself is surrounded by concentric rings of mass burials of unknown Union dead. No monuments, just bronze placards in the ground giving the state and number of bodies buried underneath it. Eerie to be casually walking over the graves of so many.
If I remember correctly, the Confederate monuments are across the fields to the southeast The few I recall were very restrained; a martial figure of some sort and maybe the name of the state. Maybe a placard giving unit information. Almost like a roll call of honor.
Yeah, I can see BLM or AntiFa desecrating a southern Civil War monument at Gettysburg. And I can see just about every patriotic American, regardless of politics, turning against them.

I just remembered the reenactment and AFTER emailing the general of the First Division (Army of Norther VA) I read a scrolling statement from their site:

We have become aware that, due to the need of some to spread any and all bits of info they think they know whether truth, half truth, or complete fabrication, we would like to address an issue for the upcoming Gettysburg event.
We have been aware for some time that a group has pronounced they are going to protest “whatever” at Gettysburg on July 1st.
Please be aware that local, county, state, and federal authorities are fully aware of this situation and will be out in force throughout the weekend. The GAC is actively working with authorities to cover any and all possibilities with this issue.
We would ask that all ANV members refrain from getting involved in any form of cyber chat regarding this situation.
Groups and individuals that crave public attention feed off any negative comments and especially immature threats. We will let law enforcement handle this situation and as always set an example for good citizenship.

I talked with a friend who did a reenactment there and he said at night, it was verrrrry interesting.
To be honest, I couldn’t remember so I searched a bit to be sure. Apparently there were several thousand confederate solders hastily buried onsite but most of them were moved to other, more organized cemeteries.
“The southern dead were removed to cemeteries in North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia between 1871 and 1873. Most of the Confederate dead were interred at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia in a special section set aside specifically for the casualties of Gettysburg.” - National Park service
It is called Soldiers National Monument. The inner circle contains the graves of 3603 Union soldiers grouped by state. There is also an unknown section. The outer “circle” across the touring road are the graves of soldiers from other wars...Including Vietnam. The fence that you mention divides the National Cemetery from Evergreen Cemetery which was the town cemetery at the time of the battle, and is still an active cemetery today. Just beyond the fence inside the evergreen cemetery is believed to be the site where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. The iron fence. by the way was the very fence that surrounded Lafayette park in DC during Lincoln’s Presidency.
