After leading the House Democrats for 15 years, the San Francisco stalwart has total control of her caucus and is a massive fundraising force that her party cannot easily replace. And as the first female Speaker of the House (2007-2011), she has unique status and an array of female supporters, both inside and outside Congress.
Willie Brown, the first African-American mayor from Pelosi's hometown, cautions in his latest column in the San Francisco Chronicle that those who want to replace Pelosi should be "careful what you ask for. You might wind up with even less."

When it comes to California politics, few know it better.
At the intersection of ‘queen bee syndrome’ and identity politics. The Democrats in the House haven’t built a farm team system of rising leaders, only encouraged bomb throwers to get on TV cameras to blindly parrot talking points and rile up their supporters.
In a functional party, as repulsive as it sounds to conservative ears, Debbie Wasserman Schultz would have been a natural person to rise to a leadership post, but she was groomed for years to be an unthinking sycophantic drone for so long, she couldn’t lead a rendition of ‘happy birthday’ without a talking points sheet anymore, much less leading a party in Congress.
Compound this with their problems in letting any face of the party be a moderating voice, much less a moderating voice, come out of an older straight white man’s mouth. It has to be a female or minority from here on out, not because of qualifications, but because of race and gender. Tim Ryan’s only chance at being Minority Leader is by coming out as gay.
Couldn’t happen to a better group of people.
How about Carlos Danger? He could form a new pedo caucus. Sorry caucus should not be used with weiner.
They have a small bench of possibilities.
The bench is splintered, leans heavy to the left and the foundation is disintegrating.
If they did replace her with someone younger that would be the end of social security. The younger generation is not going to continue to fund a program that they won’t receive a benefits from.
