Wittes wrote on Twitter that the upcoming story could be published later Friday or on Monday. The heads-up comes a day after Trump revealed that he was bluffing last month when he suggested that he had recorded his conversations with Comey.
May 16 appears to be his first time Wittes previewed Comey stories.
Hours after Wittes posted the foreboding message that day, The Times published a shocking story: Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him To End Flynn Investigation.
The piece cited a memo that Comey filed just after a Feb. 14 meeting he had with Trump at the White House. In the meeting, Comey claimed that Trump asked him to back off of an investigation into Michael Flynn, the retired lieutenant general who Trump had fired as national security adviser the previous day.
Wittes was not the source of the memo. Columbia law school professor Daniel Richman, another friend of Comeys, shared the document with The Times after being provided a copy by the former FBI chief.
Richman has since given the memos to the FBI.
Wittes tweeted a series of ticks two days later, on May 18. Wittes was an on-the-record source for that article, also written by Times reporter Michael S. Schmidt.

He’s got a Lindsey Graham smile.
Dang it, lookie here, I DO have a tape of my conversation with Comey! President Trump.
One of the better ones.
This stuff is getting old and tired.
He swore before the committee to tell the whole truth. Then he said he never felt like Trump was pressuring him to drop the Flynne investigation (matter).
Does anyone still use tape anymore?
>>renew Americas sedition laws and make the penalties severe
There probably isn’t a man or woman on Capitol Hill with the balls to introduce such a bill.
Well, he also said he didn’t know of any tapes. Of course, Sessions could be good at hinting, but I doubt it.
Thanks....
Well now we know what he was doing at the NY Times yesterday
Sounds like Comey is trying to tweak Trump over this like Trump tweaked Comey over the tapes.
>>Why isnt Comey in prison with Lynch and the Clinton Crime Family?
Because the Federal government is corrupt to the core, and President Trump, even if he’s around for the next eight years, will not be able to drain the swamp.
Trump must be one hell of a poker player. He bluffs Comey about tapes and says tell the truth. Comey tells the truth. First time since second grade. He is now under oath. Trump bluffed. Ow says he didn’t tape Comey. Or does he have any tapes if someone else recorded them. He just froze the intelligence agencies. If there are tapes done by the CIA, FBI etc. They can’t leak them because if they do it’s illegal. Trump the. Just drills for the leakers.
Flipped on what? No one did anything. And even if Flynn did something they can use, like mislead on a form, nothing he might have would implicate Trump. We know the collusion thing is idiotic. So they’ve got nuffin.
“Trump has really stepped into it this time! It’s all over for him now!” No. 323,454,287
>>Can you all see that Comey is guilty of crimes and furiously trying to save himself?
I think everyone on the planet who is actually watching what is going on in Washington can see that, with the exception of President Trump and his trusted inner circle, criminals are in charge throughout the Federal government in all three of its branches.
Exactly, flip on what? Unless you really believe there was collusion with Russia to do something to the election which is utter insanity.
>> Personally I would have fired Coma the first day.
Looking back on the Trump presidency I think many will conclude that his most serious mistake was not firing ALL Obamabots on his first day in office. Neglecting to do so was perceived to be an invitation to every one of them to undercut his every initiative, and we are now witnessing that on a 24/7 basis.
