Four Republican senators say they cannot support healthcare bill

Four conservative U.S. Republican senators said on Thursday they are not prepared to vote for the Senate Republican healthcare proposal unveiled on Thursday when it comes to the floor, probably next week.

"Currently, for a variety of reasons, we are not ready to vote for this bill, but we are open to negotiation and obtaining more information before it is brought to the floor," the senators -- Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and Ted Cruz -- said in a joint statement. The draft bill would not repeal Obamacare and lower healthcare costs, they said.

Obamacare (aka: the “affordable healthcare act) needs to be shitcanned now.

Healthcare and health insurance rates are skyrocketing out of control. The current system is bleeding Americans dry.

Even with high cost users, the rates are way out of whack for what we get in return.

What really sucks is that illegals get top notch health care, and I, a tax paying American who pays for his own insurance has to stand in line behind them, and gets treated like SHIT because I’m not the preferred mexican border jumper.

The biggest problem is when the government starts handing out money, which Obamacare does in the forms of subsidies it immediately becomes sacrosanct and institutionalized. If you go back you’re going to alienate a number of people, that number depending upon the size of the handout. So they’re dancing around that. Secondly when you have a new program it requires structure which costs a pretty penny. That structure gets integrated into government. You break it apart over night and chaos follows.
The whole thing is like getting an heroin addict off the drug. Cold turkey may work but its a mess getting through. Or it might kill the patient.

Whatever the republicans do they had better figure it out quickly. With insurers pulling out in 2018 a lot and I mean a lot of people are going to be without an option. The second rude awakening will be people thinking only dems are on obamacare. If that happens you can kiss the house and probably the Senate good bye.

Exactly. The GOP really need a sense of urgency on this. Gotta get something done ASAP because the kenyancare time bomb is about to go off in their hands.

Well that’s harsh- but not unfair.

Actually I think this is part of the PR Kabuki
:conservative Senators pre-empting the complaining that will be coming from the liberal Republican Senators.
I assume I won’t like Mitch’s planned endgame, but we’ll be stuck with it.

If McCain and Graham were against this bill I would’ve been 99.999% certain it was a great bill. With this list of critics I’m at least 90% sure the bill sucks DC swamp water.

FGS just leave it alone and let the Dems own Obamacare.

They don't own health care anymore. The Republicans own it, and have from the moment Trump was elected and they began touting Trumpcare.

“Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and Ted Cruz — said in a joint statement. The draft bill would not repeal Obamacare and lower healthcare costs, they said.”

Good for them. This bill is reportedly a warmed over version of ObummerCare. No doubt it was written by lobbyists and rubber stamped by McConnell as ready to go.

The sad thing is that only 4 Republicans are opposed to this Dim-light turkey.

Good! They are actually doing the Republicans and Trump a favor. If they pass this thing they get to own the Obamacare stench and lose in the future. Thank you to these 4 thinking men.

Let us not miss the real problem and solution.

The issue is greedy, for profit hospitals, insurance and drug and MD hiring corporations making huge profits off sick people.

The only solution is to get the greed as well as the bureaucracy out of health care and put it back in hands of doctors and patients.

The corporatist, globalists, and politicians beholden to those for profits are not going to jeapordize their profits.

Back to reasonably regulated charitable entities.

What does it do?

A: It gives Yertle and the other Swamp Dwellers a chance to lie to the voters about actually doing something about Obamacare while simultaneously keeping their corporate owners happy.

Hypocrisy... maybe.

But, nobody yet has done anything to convince me this proposal is a great improvement. Sure, it nibbles around the edges of the worst of Obamacare, but is it really significantly better? Does it improve the situation as much as Obamacare damaged it? Or does it effectively cement much of Obamacare in place?

It is really hard to tell, and I have to agree with Chucky that it seems like a rush-job, even though his motives for saying so are impure and partisan.

Please, Donald and GOP, sell me on why this is a good thing.

Or, maybe, the real writing of the bill is in the House-Senate compromise negotiations. But, if that’s the case, will the public know anything in advance, or will they have to wait until the bill is passed to see what’s in it? Where have I heard that before?

They don’t seem to get that repealing with replacing is gonna cost them. Clean repeal. Then go after protection from out of state competition and whatever makes it more attractive to tie insurance to employment. “Finally” they need to do away all forms of punitive or non-monetary damages.
