In case you're unaware, we are going through a pretty intense heat wave right now.
With temperatures surpassing 90 degrees, going outside and heading to school can be a pretty grueling (and sweaty) process. Heck, unless you're at the beach, being exposed to such high temperatures can be somewhat of a bummer.
Luckily, most schools allow teenagers to wear shorts, dresses, and skirts to help them cool off from the summer sun but other schools have uniform requirements that don't allow as many options.

Apparently, the Isca academy in Exeter, England has a strict dress code that bans male students from wearing shorts, even on days so hot that wearing long pants seems almost impossible.
However, ladies can wear skirts to school, which gives them a lighter summer outfit to beat the heat in.
Recently, dozens of clever schoolboys at the academy couldn't take the summer heat with trousers on, and allegedly asked if they could wear shorts to school instead.
When they were told they couldn't, they found the next best clothing option that was already part of the school's uniform:
Skirts.

TBH, I'm super proud of 'em. If girls can wear skirts to school, why can't boys rock 'em, too?
Based off the pictures, these dudes look much happier (and cooler) rocking the airy plaid look.

I feel you, man! I LOVE wearing skirts for these very reasons.
The principal of the school, Aimee Mitchell, commented on the boys' choice to wear skirts and admitted she'd be willing to change the dress code in the future.
She told The Guardian,
Shorts are not currently part of our uniform for boys and I would not want to make any changes without consulting both students and their families. However, with hotter weather becoming more normal, I would be happy to consider a change for the future. In the meantime, these guys are rocking their skirts without shame, and Twitter is digging it.

Hopefully their dress code changes soon, but in the meantime, I definitely applaud their efforts to rock a skirt in the summer heat.

Same here...but only grew up in western Kentucky.
These kids wouldn’t know how to handle the average Summer in the Southeastern US or the Southwest. English kiddies: Take your pick between still, humid air and temperatures in the 90s, or low humidity and temperatures above 100.
sadly, ol Mustafa would probably feel right at home there!
I have no problem with scottish kids wearing kilts.
Those are not kilts. Those are boys wearing dresses. Who put them up to it, I wonder.
People blood get accustomed to certain temperatures in the area that they live in. If you took Tucson students and put them in England during the summer when it is hot they probably wouldn't think it was hot but some would probably would consider England cold from what they are use to.
In the UK hardly anyone has air conditioners and even fans, it is a great place for American to visit during the summer.
I'm pretty sure those schools in the UK with out air condition or fans get pretty hot during summer.
Michael/Michelle wore a skirt/dress for 8 years . . . man bump and all!

People in Florida break out the sweaters when it gets down to 70. People in Minnesota break out the shorts and t-shirts when it gets above freezing in winter. Hot or cold is all relative.
Same here. High school during the 80s in Houston. With the humidity, it was worse than here in AZ.
No shorts except during gym or after school practice. If you were hurt or sick during gym, you were expected to change before going to the nurse. No sweatpants. No tank tops, spaghetti straps, crop tops, or off the shoulder tops. No offensive t-shirts or shirts advertising alcohol or tobacco products. Skirts had to be 2 inches below your fingertips. No obvious hair dye. No “distracting” haircuts. Boys had to wear a belt and their hair could not touch their shirt collar. Boys had to be clean shaven. The boys dean kept disposable razors for the boys that forgot.
Today’s kids have it easy...
They are properly called kilts
Aye that
Why the hell not? They won’t let them wear shorts. Smart kids. If the school doesn’t like it allow the guys to wear shorts!
When I traveled the world on a student ship, many of the male students adopted the skirt like clothing in some of the lands we visited because it was comfortable and the men of that land were wearing them. We all often adopted the tropical or warm weather flowing clothing of the lands.
Not having clothing tubes around your legs DOESNT MAKE YOU GAY. Sheesh.
The article seems pretty explanatory. They are making a poit about not being allowed to wear shorts.
“Heck, unless you’re at the beach, being exposed to such high temperatures can be somewhat of a bummer.”
SomeTHING. Illiteracy strikes again.
Oh my...
Got my first AC when I was 16, found it in the garbage. Fixed it and charged it at my friends dads shop and had to pay my dad 25 bucks a month to run it. Summers in NY are awful, worth every penny.
Were these Skirts or Short KILTS? A Scotttsman in AZ needs to know.
Exactly. Kilts are proper attire anywhere. I have two. Don’t wear them nearly enough though.
