Trump breaks campaign promise to deport Dreamers
The Hill ^ | 6/16/2016 | Max Greenwood

The Homeland Security Department announced on Thursday that it would keep in place the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, allowing undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to remain in the country.

The decision breaks a key campaign promise by Trump to "immediately terminate" the DACA program and stands at odds with the president's vows to crackdown on illegal immigration.

In an announcement posted on the DHS website Thursday night, the department said that the memo that created DACA "will remain in effect." A fact sheet posted along with the announcement reaffirmed that the program's original provisions would remain in place.

"DACA recipients will continue to be eligible as outlined in the June 15, 2012, memorandum. DACA recipients who were issued three-year extensions before the district court’s injunction will not be affected, and will be eligible to seek a two-year extension upon their expiration," the fact sheet reads. "No work permits will be terminated prior to their current expiration dates."

The program impacts about 800,000 people in the U.S., and while Trump has suggested since taking office that he would not seek to deport DACA recipients, the DHS decision on Thursday quells concerns that the administration could do away with the policy.

“dreamer” is a perverse distortion spouted by the master liar Obama. It is an insult. These people are illegal aliens.

And refugees are not coming in huge numbers. Trumps doing great.

Where has been no slow down on the number of refugees coming to the USA. That is a huge disappointment to me. Dreamers are a difficult nut to crack. Refugees is a no brainer. And Trump promised to 'send them back'.

Trump has done more in 6 months to rip this country back from extreme leftist/globalist and exposed the corrupt collusive media, than any president!

“Trump lied. He promised over and over during the election that he would and amnesty. Everyone made excuses since the election when he did not honor his promise. What say you now that his promise is proven a lie?”

Bullshite. You either are woefully ignorant or deliberately trying to make a stink out of nothing. President Trump said we would deport the criminals 1st & deal with the rest later.

Btw, the Trump administration ended DAPA.

Oh for the love of-

Have you never heard about going after the EASY targets first?

For pity’s sake; I could dump you into a room full of $100 bills and you’d ignore them in order to look for a couple of dimes hidden in the corner.

You seem to think that the President has infinite resources. He doesn’t. So what’s more important? Throwing out drug dealers, gangsters, and welfare leeches, or going after kids who couldn’t control the circumstances of their birth?

They need to go, yes. But they can wait until the immediate threats are taken care of.

“People elected Trump and not his daughter.”

Not seen this fallacy for a few weeks. President Trump get’s to pick his advisors just like every president before him. Sorry you write as if he is a weak man in the face of all the evidence that he’s not.

How?

You are great at repeating the same lines over and over again.

But you never say HOW.

How are you going to dedicate ICE officers to deporting drug dealers and kids and paroling the border at the same time?

How are you going to deal with Congressional fallout without having to give up dozens of other promises, including, yes, the wall?

Talk is cheap.

he rebellion of the bureaucrats and zero support from the GOP has made it impossible to do anything else right now.

Obama created this program with the stroke of a pen. It can be ended that way as well.

These are excerpts from the three speeches cited at the end of the /immigration/ page. Really the only one that supports the subject matter is the Phoeniz, AZ Address on Immigration.

Donald J. Trump: Address On Immigration [Phoenix, AZ]

Tonight is not going to be a normal rally speech.

Instead, I am going to deliver a detailed policy address on one of the greatest challenges facing our country today: immigration.

We agreed on the importance of ending the illegal flow of drugs, cash, guns and people across our border, and to put the cartels out of business.

But to fix our immigration system, we must change our leadership in Washington. There is no other way.

The truth is, our immigration system is worse than anyone realizes. But the facts aren’t known because the media won’t report on them, the politicians won’t talk about them, and the special interests spend a lot of money trying to cover them up.

Today you will get the truth.

The fundamental problem with the immigration system in our country is that it serves the needs of wealthy donors, political activists and powerful politicians. Let me tell you who it doesn’t serve: it doesn’t serve you, the American people.

When politicians talk about immigration reform, they usually mean the following: amnesty, open borders, and lower wages.

Immigration reform should mean something else entirely: it should mean improvements to our laws and policies to make life better for American citizens.

But if we are going to make our immigration system work, then we have to be prepared to talk honestly and without fear about these important and sensitive issues...

On top of that, illegal immigration costs our country more than $113 billion dollars a year. For the money we are going to spend on illegal immigration over the next ten years, we could provide one million at-risk students with a school voucher.

While there are many illegal immigrants in our country who are good people, this doesn’t change the fact that most illegal immigrants are lower-skilled workers with less education who compete directly against vulnerable American workers, and that these illegal workers draw much more out from the system than they will ever pay in.

Instead, the media and my opponent discuss one thing, and only this one thing: the needs of people living here illegally.

The truth is, the central issue is not the needs of the 11 million illegal immigrants – or however many there may be.

That has never been the central issue. It will never be the central issue. Anyone who tells you that the core issue is the needs of those living here illegally has simply spent too much time in Washington.

Only out of touch media elites think the biggest problem facing American society today is that there are 11 million illegal immigrants who don’t have legal status.

To all the politicians, donors and special interests, hear these words from me today: there is only one core issue in the immigration debate and it is this: the well-being of the American people. Nothing even comes a close second.

Hillary Clinton, for instance, talks constantly about her fears that families will be separated. But she’s not talking about the American families who have been permanently separated from their loved ones because of a preventable death. No, she’s only talking about families who came here in violation of the law.

We will treat everyone living or residing in our country with dignity. We will be fair, just and compassionate to all. But our greatest compassion must be for American citizens.

President Obama and Hillary Clinton have engaged in gross dereliction of duty by surrendering the safety of the American people to open borders. President Obama and Hillary Clinton support Sanctuary Cities, they support catch-and-release on the border, they support visa overstays, they support the release of dangerous criminals from detention – and they support unconstitutional executive amnesty...

Number Five: Cancel Unconstitutional Executive Orders & Enforce All Immigration Laws

We will immediately terminate President Obama’s two illegal executive amnesties, in which he defied federal law and the constitution to give amnesty to approximately 5 million illegal immigrants.

Hillary Clinton has pledged to keep both of these illegal amnesty programs – including the 2014 amnesty which has been blocked by the Supreme Court. Clinton has also pledged to add a third executive amnesty.

Clinton’s plan would trigger a Constitutional Crisis unlike almost anything we have ever seen before. In effect, she would be abolishing the lawmaking powers of Congress in order to write her own laws from the Oval Office.

In a Trump Administration, all immigration laws will be enforced. As with any law enforcement activity, we will set priorities. But, unlike this Administration, no one will be immune or exempt from enforcement – and ICE and Border Patrol officers will be allowed to do their jobs. Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation – that is what it means to have laws and to have a country.

Our enforcement priorities will include removing criminals, gang members, security threats, visa overstays, public charges – that is, those relying on public welfare or straining the safety net, along with millions of recent illegal arrivals and overstays who’ve come here under the current Administration.

Donald J. Trump Remarks in Mexico City, Mexico

No one wins in either country when human smugglers and drug traffickers prey on innocent people. When cartels commit acts of violence. When illegal weapons and cash flow from the United States into Mexico or when migrants from Central America make the dangerous trek, and it is very, very dangerous, into Mexico or the United States without legal authorization...

Prosperity and happiness in both countries will increase if we work together on the following five shared goals.

Number one: ending illegal immigration. Not just between our two countries, but including the illegal immigration and migration from Central and South Americas, and from other regions that impact security and finances in both Mexico and the United States. This is a humanitarian disaster. The dangerous treks, the abuse by gangs and cartels, and the extreme physical dangers and it must be solved, it must be solved quickly. Not fair to the people anywhere worldwide you can truly say but certainly not fair to the people of Mexico or the people of the United States.

Donald J. Trump Delivers Address To Victims Of Illegal Immigrant Crime

There are a lot of numbers in the immigration debate. But let me give you the most important number of all. That most important number of all is the number of American lives it is acceptable to lose in the name of illegal immigration. Let me tell you what that number is: ZERO.

Our nation should not accept one lost American life because our country failed to enforce its laws. What do you tell to the mother, who just buried her daughter, because someone was released at the border who should have been sent home?

What do you tell to the young boy, who will grow up without a dad, because a criminal was deported five times but was allowed to keep coming back into the country?

What do you tell the wife, who has lost her husband, because a Sanctuary City released an illegal immigrant from behind bars?

This must end. And it must end right now. Not one more American life should be given up in the name of open borders.

Administration revokes blocked program to protect immigrant parents (Team Trump kills D.A.P.A.)

The Washington Post ^ | 06/15/2017 | Alicia A. Caldwell

The Trump administration is formally revoking an Obama-era program intended to protect immigrant parents of U.S. citizens and legal residents from deportation. The Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program was announced by the Obama administration in 2014 but was blocked by a federal judge in Texas after 26 states challenged the program’s legality in federal court.

Kelly formally revoked the policy memo that created the program, which mirrored an earlier effort to protect young immigrants in the country illegally from deportation on June 15.
Homeland Security John Kelly formally revoked a policy memo that created the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program. The revocation came on the fifth anniversary of another effort that has protected hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation.

The program to protect parents was announced by President Barack Obama in November 2014 but was never fully launched. It was intended to keep the immigrant parents safe from deportation and provide them with a renewable work permit good for two years, but it was blocked by a federal judge in Texas after 26 states filed suit against the federal government and challenged the effort’s legality. Republicans decried the effort at “backdoor amnesty” and argued that Obama overstepped his authority by protecting a specific class of immigrants living in the United States illegally.

“Trump is breaking a major major campaign promise.”

Thanks for sharing a fallacy. You’re not the only one sadly.

President Trump has kept numerous campaign promises in his short time in office. DAPA is gone as of today. Because he has not yet done away with DACA is not evidence that he will not do so in the future.

Patience will always do a body good :)

Your "ancestor" came from another country too.

So what? I am not an immigrant. I am a natural born citizen, over 70% of Americans are not immigrants, with the right to say who comes in and who does not.

That said, this is a special problem case, created by government, that Trump must resolve.

Nice play on words. There are tons of laws on the books now that "solve" the illegal problem. Mr. Trump needs to enforce them all.

That is a ridiculous analogy. DACA provides a SHIELD. A shield is active protection. Protection is entirely different from prioritizing targets, it a defense of targets.
