The Homeland Security Department announced on Thursday that it would keep in place the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, allowing undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to remain in the country.
The decision breaks a key campaign promise by Trump to "immediately terminate" the DACA program and stands at odds with the president's vows to crackdown on illegal immigration.
In an announcement posted on the DHS website Thursday night, the department said that the memo that created DACA "will remain in effect." A fact sheet posted along with the announcement reaffirmed that the program's original provisions would remain in place.
"DACA recipients will continue to be eligible as outlined in the June 15, 2012, memorandum. DACA recipients who were issued three-year extensions before the district courts injunction will not be affected, and will be eligible to seek a two-year extension upon their expiration," the fact sheet reads. "No work permits will be terminated prior to their current expiration dates."
The program impacts about 800,000 people in the U.S., and while Trump has suggested since taking office that he would not seek to deport DACA recipients, the DHS decision on Thursday quells concerns that the administration could do away with the policy.
“dreamer” is a perverse distortion spouted by the master liar Obama. It is an insult. These people are illegal aliens.
Where has been no slow down on the number of refugees coming to the USA. That is a huge disappointment to me. Dreamers are a difficult nut to crack. Refugees is a no brainer. And Trump promised to 'send them back'.
“Trump lied. He promised over and over during the election that he would and amnesty. Everyone made excuses since the election when he did not honor his promise. What say you now that his promise is proven a lie?”
Bullshite. You either are woefully ignorant or deliberately trying to make a stink out of nothing. President Trump said we would deport the criminals 1st & deal with the rest later.
Btw, the Trump administration ended DAPA.

Enforce existing law. Don’t continue Obama’s illegal garbage.
Oh for the love of-
Have you never heard about going after the EASY targets first?
For pity’s sake; I could dump you into a room full of $100 bills and you’d ignore them in order to look for a couple of dimes hidden in the corner.
You seem to think that the President has infinite resources. He doesn’t. So what’s more important? Throwing out drug dealers, gangsters, and welfare leeches, or going after kids who couldn’t control the circumstances of their birth?
They need to go, yes. But they can wait until the immediate threats are taken care of.
“People elected Trump and not his daughter.”
Not seen this fallacy for a few weeks. President Trump get’s to pick his advisors just like every president before him. Sorry you write as if he is a weak man in the face of all the evidence that he’s not.
How?
You are great at repeating the same lines over and over again.
But you never say HOW.
How are you going to dedicate ICE officers to deporting drug dealers and kids and paroling the border at the same time?
How are you going to deal with Congressional fallout without having to give up dozens of other promises, including, yes, the wall?
Talk is cheap.

Administration revokes blocked program to protect immigrant parents (Team Trump kills D.A.P.A.)

The Trump administration is formally revoking an Obama-era program intended to protect immigrant parents of U.S. citizens and legal residents from deportation. The Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program was announced by the Obama administration in 2014 but was blocked by a federal judge in Texas after 26 states challenged the programs legality in federal court.
Kelly formally revoked the policy memo that created the program, which mirrored an earlier effort to protect young immigrants in the country illegally from deportation on June 15.
Homeland Security John Kelly formally revoked a policy memo that created the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program. The revocation came on the fifth anniversary of another effort that has protected hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation.
The program to protect parents was announced by President Barack Obama in November 2014 but was never fully launched. It was intended to keep the immigrant parents safe from deportation and provide them with a renewable work permit good for two years, but it was blocked by a federal judge in Texas after 26 states filed suit against the federal government and challenged the efforts legality. Republicans decried the effort at backdoor amnesty and argued that Obama overstepped his authority by protecting a specific class of immigrants living in the United States illegally.

“Trump is breaking a major major campaign promise.”
Thanks for sharing a fallacy. You’re not the only one sadly.
President Trump has kept numerous campaign promises in his short time in office. DAPA is gone as of today. Because he has not yet done away with DACA is not evidence that he will not do so in the future.
Patience will always do a body good :)
So what? I am not an immigrant. I am a natural born citizen, over 70% of Americans are not immigrants, with the right to say who comes in and who does not.
That said, this is a special problem case, created by government, that Trump must resolve.
Nice play on words. There are tons of laws on the books now that "solve" the illegal problem. Mr. Trump needs to enforce them all.
Get over it...
> Have you never heard about going after the EASY targets first?
That is a ridiculous analogy. DACA provides a SHIELD. A shield is active protection. Protection is entirely different from prioritizing targets, it a defense of targets.
