Comey followed careful plan in leaking memos
The Hill ^ | June 10, 2017 | Katie Bo Williams

James Comey’s release of his memos to The New York Times was a carefully orchestrated act that appeared designed to shield him from any legal repercussions, whistleblower and ethics lawyers say.

While President Trump’s personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, is reportedly preparing a leak complaint against Comey, experts say the fight over Comey’s disclosures is more political than legal.

“It’s clear that Comey understood the legal principles [protecting disclosures],” said Stephen Kohn, a lawyer who specializes in whistleblower cases.

But, he said, “Trump’s lawyer was also smart because he’s filing these complaints in places that don’t mean anything. It’s public relations.”

“A careful plan”....as in “conspiracy” perhaps?

Love that cartoon with the scales of justice.

Comey very openly talked about two things that are criminal: releasing notes from an Executive meeting and that Lynch obstructed and colluded for the Clintons. Both “bombshells” were very easily dropped on the committee without much effort. Comey is not dumb - I believe he put his neck out there as an “offering” of objectivity to lend credibility to the other charge against the former AG. The first is minor when compared to the second. I believe this is his way of not being “Marcy-Parked” like many who have come against the Clinton machine. More is coming without a doubt.

...Comey, a lawyer and the head of the foremost investigative agency in the world, knew how to tiptoe along the gray line that would prevent him from legal jeopardy?

Hold on now. You're buying this article?

I’m sure this wasn’t the only time he did it.

I like the idea of a spray. I can think of at least 3 people who I’d spritz.

Or are you just a NeverTrumper?

Bingo! It's simply a routine case of "heights" indulging his #NeverTrump impulses.

Always something negative. Never anything positive.

President Trump doesn't fight back??

Talk about being detached from reality...

Given the size of the job we expect of Trump it is ludicrous to even attempt to judge performance BEFORE 2 full years. I’d guess that if Trump has hopes of draining the swamp he is barely into setting up and laying groundwork.

...experts say the fight over Comey’s disclosures is more political than legal.

Replace the sixth and seventh words above with the word "Trump" and you'll have an accurate statement.

The media ALWAYS does this--sees one of their champions do something wrong, then explain away a reason as to why THEIR execution of the action is excusable.

I want to know if Comey spoke to Mueller at any time about his meetings with President Trump, prior to Mueller being appointed Special Counsel. Has anybody bothered to ask either one of them that question? I can’t believe this is the first time that Comey leaked info to the press since Trump was elected. Mueller was Comey’s mentor, why wouldn’t he confer with him when all this first started coming to light?

"...experts say the fight over Comey’s disclosures is more political than legal."

How is it political when he clearly broke several laws by doing it? Not to mention he committed perjury under oath. And failed to report pressure he claimed Lynch placed on him in the Clinton investigation.

Whenever I see a story with a “some say” or “experts say” I instantly know it is a fake news agenda piece. The “experts” comprise members of the newsroom in question.

Ben Garrison is the premier political cartoonist in today’s world filled with lies from the MSM. The lies he skewers, daily with his cartoons!

"I would throw conspiracy into that mix as well."

"While Comey may be in the clear legally, that does not mean that he acted “appropriately,” critics say. Lawmakers are frustrated that the former director didn’t bring his story to Congress, rather than the media."

Comey has a history within the time frame of Trump's election and taking office, of failing to report various things to Congress. He was chastised previously for not notifying Congress about something related to the Russian investigation, and I believe it had to do with not telling them about the FICA requests in a timely manner. There are probably plenty of other examples where Comey failed to notify Congress about parts of this investigation, and like his timing his leaks, he timed his failures to notify Congress in the same manner, to have the greatest negative effect against President Trump.
