There is almost universal bewilderment over President Trump raising the possibility that his conversations with James Comey were captured by a recording system he had installed in the White House. Memories immediately turn to the experience of President Nixon with White House tapes being subpoenaed. That did not end well for Nixon, and raising the possibility that Trump White House conversations could be subject to subpoenas – perhaps from a Democrat-controlled House of Representatives in 2019 – has both friends and foes of the president scratching their heads.

After reading some speculation here, I have concluded the conversations were not taped...... they were I phoned. That is, comey recorded the conversations on his I phone or some small digital recording device. Those recordings were discovered when his office was sacked the day he was fired.
Of course, President Trump lied when he said the conversations were taped when they were actually recorded.

If Comey did record the conversations, then he might be in more criminal trouble. If Washington DC a dual notification district? If it is, then he had to inform Trump that he was recording their conversation. If he didn’t, then he committed a crime. We should keep a scoreboard of years in jail he will spend. We have 10 for leaking federal documents to this law buddy.

Trump has never said he has tapes. What he has said all along is what if their conversations had been taped. Comey can’t be sure so he has to be honest in what he says. Comey’s statements about Trump lies is merely nothing more then the ranting of an disgruntled ex employee.

Give Trump credit for outflanking the media and PJ Comey. He smiles, throws a crumb on the water on Friday and controls the media for the weekend. Remember for 50 years he has dealt with corrupt NYC politicians, unions, contractors and the Mafia. He is chewing up PJ Comey in public. As a side shot he is taking down NYT and CNN. He is having far too much fun. Oh and he is winning!

I think you have it backwards. It was Trump who asked everyone else but Comey to leave the room.
My bet is that there are no tapes, at least none made by Trump.
Trump has a very sharp ability to size up people. He sensed that Comey is a very weak person, in fact a coward.
So he bluffed him with the fear that Trump might have recorded their conversation.
To scare Comey into being truthful.
And it worked and it exposed Comey as a coward. As a crybaby.
When Trump said that he would tell us about the tapes in a few days, he added an odd comment, saying that we would not like it.
As with everything else Trump says, that comment is a clue as to what is to come.

Do you really believe that with the technology available today the White House would not have a system in which it would be impossible to record whatever was said in the White House without very special electronic equipment.
Trump has even managed to prestidigitate (As Andy Brown would say) somebody as smart as Thomas Lifson. Hilarity ensues as he comes up from the wine cellar and channels Ann Coulter. HAHAHA.

No it was Comey who asked to be alone the first time.
That’s another of the media omissions... of course Comey did this so he could then lie about what transpired.... and with media and all Dems against Trump and nobody (not even elected Repubs) defending Trump, Comey goes for the throat here.
But Trump beat him with the possibility that the conversation was recorded. So with all the build up to the hearings, Comey had to tell the truth.
They continue to underestimate Trump. They just can’t understand how they’re not “getting him” yet.

imo this is one of the results of living in an echo chamber.... they can’t really see any other view but their own.
Watched CNN panel of “experts” totally bewildered on this because they can’t conceive Trump doing anything smart. Trump bluffed Comey into admitting facts helpful to Trump, because he made Comey worry there is a tape. And it worked.

The Old Post Office Trump Hotel - I imagine he installed a “safe space” there long before he won. Wouldn’t surprise me if he is there often for this exact reason. Its right down the street. I thought he was putting in the Hotel because of that several years back. I imagine a new Trump Hotel his apartments make the Whitehouse seem a bit cramped.
