A former Austinite is now The United Methodist Church's first openly non-binary trans person to be ordained as a deacon.
After 12 years, M Barclay, who prefers the pronouns them/their, can call themself reverend. It's a title that took 12 years to earn-- more than twice as long as most Methodists pursuing the same ordination.
"I am just filled with joy and excitement that this wall has been broken down-- at least in this moment," says Barclay.

Liberals are creating all these slippery slope examples.
You legalize sodomy, and in less than a decade, same sex marriage is legal and many states make it illegal to criticize it or take a child to therapy to rectify same sex attraction even if molested.
And they’ve already gone in four years from “let’s reduce transgenderism in severity as a mental illness” to “the only legal treatment is tons of drugs and surgery, even for children”.
This means she’s going to use her position of power to sexually abuse people, warp their minds and preach homosexuality, not religion. It’s pretty standard for her type.
I am so glad that I left the UMC over 40 years ago. I am embarrassed that my parents dragged me into the UMC 10 years before that.
