I think that Trump genuinely thought he would be able to bring people together and govern.

Being that he is not a politician and not ideological, he has no true idea of who Democrats are or who Republicans are, and no idea that both of them absolutely hate his guts.

He didn’t have any idea who Chuck Schumer is, or who Paul Ryan is, and possibly still doesn’t, but I think he sees them for who they are now.
