The federal government no longer will make settlement agreements with any person or organization not directly involved in a legal dispute, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Wednesday.
The move by Sessions abolished a practice that has funneled likely millions of dollars in banking settlements to outside organizations in such “third-party” payments.
Left-wing groups, including La Raza and NeighborWorks America, benefited from the practice, The Daily Signal previously reported.
In a formal statement, Sessions said:
Effective immediately, [Justice] Department attorneys may not enter into any agreement on behalf of the United States in settlement of federal claims or charges, including agreements settling civil litigation, accepting plea agreements, or deferring or declining prosecution in a criminal manner, that directs or provides for a payment or loan to any non-governmental person or entity that is not a party to the dispute.

This seems to be about parties who haven’t even SUED.
Iirc, the EPA used a good deal of that money to fund environmental lawsuits which the had been told were being filed.
The EPA was financing financing lawsuits against itself as well as others.
These arrangements cannot have been legal. They need to get the money back.
Past time to shut down this unconstitutional disbursements of monies that rightfully belong to the taxpayers. Congress has sole authority to appropriate funds.
Gee, I thought Sessions was a do nothing old slow sleepy southerner that many here were calling to be fired. Amazing how things change in just one day, isn’t it?

Millions? No. Try Billions. And there needs to be a law preventing the dems and RINOS from switching the spigot back on. You know it will happen.

They shouldn’t have been legal, but they might have been at the time. If they weren’t illegal, Congress should step in and make the necessary changes in law to make it illegal.
Or, I suppose Trump could act like Obama did, and just encourage all the agencies to funnel billions of dollars into conservative causes.
The MSM didn’t have any problem when the Obama administration did it, so they probably won’t object if Trump does exactly the same thing for conservative efforts, right?
